But the fact that MPs aren’t really talking much about the gender issue doesn’t mean they aren’t thinking about it. They are, and they’re worried.

A really interesting article on yet another aspect of this consultation exercise. .

The reform of the GRA has thrown up so many different themes and questions. What started off as a debate about competing rights and interests, has shone some light on numerous actors and the state of public discourse. JK nails it again.

The clue is in the job title - Public Servant

Agree, fantastic article. The point about the disproportionate power of tiny organisations like Mermaids is spot on. (I’m a Spectator subscriber - I’d recommend it.)

Kirkup is brilliant.

I think that because most politicians are male they don't really understand or care about the issue. For them it's blah blah blah transphobia blah blah blah transphobia blah blah blah.

I think a lot of the fear is due to a combination of hacking and skeletons in closets

AngryAttackKittens · 16/10/2018 08:30

There is obviously some real power behind the TRAs.

And since he seems to read this site sometimes I have to ask - James Kirkup, do you know who/what group that real power is coming from? Because let's face it, this kind of massive social change pushed through against the will of the people is clearly not just the result of MPs wanting to support a tiny number of people in their desire to express themselves via clothing and makeup. Who benefits? Where is the money and political pressure coming from? Someone must know the answer.

One reason men don't want to get involved is the 'ick' factor. Those women who've tried to convince partners about it may have faced this. It's men who don't want to think about it at all, and are revolted by pics of other men simpering in Stepford Wives outfits. Ironically I think it's real genuine transphobia that leads some men to say trans'women' are women. It's a reaction of - just take that somewhere else, I don't want to know, I can't bear to think about it.
