He tends to be more about foreign affairs, such as recognising Palestine.
I don't think McDonnell cares either. He's more about the class struggle and wealth redistribution.
So if it isn't the top two, where is the current ultra-woke self-ID malaise emanating from? Easy to say Momentum but that's only partially correct - the Blairites focused on a lot of social reforms (lowering age of gay consent etc) if only because it kept the troops happy while keeping taxes low (dismounts from hobby horse).
So my (overlong) point is, the problem isn't just with the new lot, it goes back further than that (and if Peter Mandelson had managed to reach his 'post-democratic age' then self-ID would have been on the books and there's nothing anyone could have done about it).
So where now? Maybe it'll take an almighty party implosion and Tom Watson and Caroline Flint rebuilding pragmatic Labour from the ground up. I suspect Frank Field had something like this in mind when he backed Corbyn.
Finally, I've never been a Labour member but would be interested to hear from those who once were.
