Labour's Jenny Chapman said she was instinctively in favour of self-id and this should apply except in the "unique, special" situations of prisons and refuges, where different rules should apply.
The presenter then asked the Irish ambassador a weird question stating "you've been progressive under your current president, haven't you" (as though she thought Ireland had an executive presidency like the US). The ambassador replied that it was easy for 18-year-olds in Ireland to self-id but that there was additional paperwork for 16-17-year-olds, and that it was to allow people to have the gender of their choice on their birth certificate and hence passport.
The Tories' Alex Burghart said he was very pleased thw government had launched the review because society had moved on since 2004, but added noncommittally that these were delicate issues and everyone's voice had to be heard in the debate.
