Hello

Hoping someone can help me with stats. I'm getting a bit overwhelmed. At the moment I'm looking for:

How many tranitioners have surgery, I really any surgery and bottom surgery.

What the detransition rate is.

Differences in sport between top males and top female's, ideally with how many people separate the two. UK school examples would be of particular use.

I know there's more but I'll let you know when my brain returns.

Also voyerer conviction rate and unisex facility rates.

Nobody knows the answer to the first two, and there is no way to find out.

A researcher has tried to look into rates of detransition, but has his research blocked by trans activists. He is now fundraising to carry on independently.

As for the sports times, you;ll have to use Guiness Records & google.

Not everything is neatly recorded and published, and unfortunately many people wont believe something unless they see it reported in the press.
then claim ''you cant believe everything you read in the papers''.

A written question was put to the government about the number of GRC holders who have surgery. The government do not hold data on this.

So the answer is, to all intents and purposes, no one really knows.

RedToothBrush · 14/10/2018 00:04

Just looking through these written questions. There;s some interesting stuff here

www.parliament.uk/business/publications/written-questions-answers-statements/written-question/Lords/2018-05-09/HL7668/
To ask Her Majesty's Government how many offences against women perpetrated by people identifying as trans have been reported in each of the last five years.

www.parliament.uk/business/publications/written-questions-answers-statements/written-question/Lords/2018-05-09/HL7672/
To ask Her Majesty's Government how many people identifying as trans have been victims of violent crimes in each of the last five years.

This one is a great none answer
www.parliament.uk/business/publications/written-questions-answers-statements/written-question/Commons/2017-02-22/64967/
To ask the Minister for Women and Equalities, what research has been conducted on the effect of men self-defining as women on (a) women-only services, (b) organisations solely for girls and young women, (c) health commissioning for conditions which are sex-specific and (d) healthcare and other services for people who are transitioning from one sex to another.

www.parliament.uk/business/publications/written-questions-answers-statements/written-question/Lords/2018-03-05/HL6002/
To ask Her Majesty's Government what is their estimate of the number of individuals who self-identify as transsexual; and how many individuals have received a Gender Recognition Certificate since the Gender Recognition Act 2004 was passed.

Here's a link to the ONS stats on GRCs
www.gov.uk/search?q=gender+recognition+statistics+
There is a quarterly update - which doesn't give a lot of detail.

This is the info from the latest one.

85 Gender Recognition Panel (GRP) applications were received and 101 were disposed of between April and June 2018; 76 applications were pending by the end of June 2018

Of the 101 applications disposed of, a full Gender Recognition Certificate (GRC) was granted in 89% of cases (90 full GRCs), one percentage point higher than in the same period in 2017 (where 70 full GRCs were granted out of 80 disposals).

Since April 2005/06, when the Gender Recognition Act 2004 came into effect, 65% of interim certificates (131 of the 202 interim GRCs granted) have been converted to a full GRC, 58% of which were converted within 30 weeks. One interim certificate was converted to a full GRC between April and June 2018.

In April to June 2018, 90 full certificates were granted, of which 13 were for married applicants and 77 for single applicants. 59 (66%) of the individuals granted full certificates were registered male at birth while 31 (34%) were registered female at birth.

Detransition is a difficult one, because it depends on when you count it from too. If you are still in the process of getting a GRC but don't get one, does that count as detransitioning. Or self Iding and detransitioning. Or a reversal of a GRC?

The interim GRC stat is an interesting one, I've not looked into. Thats a low rate of converting an IGRC to a full one. I'd love to know a bit more about that, as that sounds like a lot of unhappy relationship potentially for both sides of the marriage / civil partnership. The narrative pushed is its bad spouses, but I suspect a lot more going on there.

This one is a cracker. Unlike the BBC, the HoL isn't much into pronouns.
www.parliament.uk/business/publications/written-questions-answers-statements/written-question/Lords/2018-06-26/HL8985/

To ask Her Majesty's Government what assessment they have made of the impact of the Gender Recognition Act 2004 on appointments to the House of Lords; what title a non-binary person, who does not identify as a man or woman, would have to take upon appointment to the House of Lords; and whether they intend to legislate to create gender neutral peerages.

Theres rather a lot of 'we don't know the effect of' or simply 'we don't know' doing on here. Stuff that a consultation isn't going to show up but would be really rather helpful to know, before making lots of v big changes to society. I'd rather do stuff on the basis of knowlegde rather than a wing and a prayer tbh. This is how not to do an impact assessment exercise into major issues.

ahagwearsapointybonnet · 14/10/2018 00:05

I have seen figures that at least 80% (I think some said maybe as high as 90%?) of trans people do NOT have or plan to have genital surgery, but don't know the source. No idea about "top" surgery though, sorry.

Re the sports thing, I saw a very good thread on Twitter I think it was, which analysed the differences for various sports, but I don't have a link, you might be able to search for it though? It said I think that there was typically a 10% gap between the best men and women in sports like running, cycling, etc but that the difference was even more noticeable in strength sports such as weightlifting. There were various graphs too. I can't find it right now but you may be able to search for it. I did find this though which also mentions the 10% thing: www.theatlantic.com/technology/archive/2012/08/we-thought-female-athletes-were-catching-up-to-men-but-theyre-not/260927/

Binglebong · 14/10/2018 00:29

Thanks. I spent most of the day on a mix of GRA Consultation, complaint to parelement and saga short email to my MP. I've left a couple to finish tomorrow so I can review them but I'm completely past it by now.

Sleep well all.

Incidentlt there was a period where I had to stop due to The Rage confirming that they will do an impact assessment AFTER they have decided what is to happen! Angry

The detransition rate is quoted as anywhere between 80% and 4% (RCH Melbourne when reviewing late teens, not later aged) with the likelihood it’s somewhere in between. The fact there are no conclusive longitudinal studies - looking at adults into their 30s and 40s - is massively concerning to me. How can you appropriately counsel teenagers and their parents about committing to puberty blockers, cross sexism hormones and surgery when you have no idea of the long term consequences and outcomes? Even if it’s as low as 4% (and a reminder that only includes late teens) that’s still 1 in 25 children passing though a clinic.

Bear in mind also, that research into this has been stifled because it’s seen as “transphobic” (the professor from Bath whose name escapes me).

IKeepFlouncing · 14/10/2018 00:48

I have chatted to one via twitter who’s life is shattered and in limbo waiting for detransition, doubt very much they recorded for any statics, they in no mans land. I really feel for them it’s alwful and the worst of it is that they was pushed into to start with.

Can’t post any link because they don’t want to be put out there.

IKeepFlouncing · 14/10/2018 00:49

You won’t get any answers as to what support is out there for anyone going through process - other than few wanky leaflets.

This question gets you blocked
