Pie is a comedian and social commentator. In this video, he touches on the Graham Linehan case and makes several good points about free speech.

That's certainly interesting, I wonder whether Glinner would admit he was wrong having been reported to the police for 'giving offence' himself

Of course not. This is why GL is much loved on this board. He's a massive hypocritical prick who holds the same "do as I say, not as I do" mantra which seems to define feminism.

Until this whole trans malarkey kicked off, FWR was against free speech, (specifically any mocking, abuse or doing down of women's issues/the feminist movement.) TRA's are using the same tactics, and all of a sudden GC feminists have become right wing libertarians, linking to the telegraph, the mail, and other right wing news sources whilst fighting for their rights to say what they like.

As soon as the trans battle is won (which it will be in GC feminists favour) I'll bet my mortgage there'll be a full 180 back to the previous position regarding free speech.

I believe in some censorship according to context.

For example, containing pornographic imagery in such a way that children are not inadvertently exposed to it, likewise aggressive, violent imagery. So - no porn/porn derived imagery on billboards, before the watershed, that kind of thing. Also, no degradation of people from marginalised groups.

I don't think Count Dunkula's stunts should be acceptable on msm - maybe having warnings on his videos saying 'some people may find this offensive' - so it can be avoided and not inadvertently stumbled across.

However, I think prosecutions for hate speech seems extremely weird. Harassment, yes. Sharing illegal content, yes. But making sick and twisted jokes, no.

The fact that there are some wrong-headed people who twist and abuse the law for nefarious purposes doesn't mean the laws are completely wrong - but it does mean they need safeguards built in to stop people twisting and abusing them..

Rudezebra I actually agree with you to some extent. Not that people here are right wing libertarians just cos they link to articles in the right wing press, that's daft. But there are definitely many illiberal views expressed here. And yes the TRAs are using the same tactics - policing language has been a feminist project for about three decades. It's been successful in changing what is acceptable to say in the workplace for example, with good results for women. Now someone else is policing our words to their own priorities.

Feminism does have an illiberal streak going through it, which is frustrating to say the least. Especially as the gains of the last two centuries were made by saying things which many people found totally unacceptable, offensive and beyond the pale.
