If the Government backs this act, it may as well legitimise witchcraft too. It has about the same basis in reality.

Thank you, Tim

Great article, does not mince words!!

Conservative friend I peaked today with FPRW flyer asked why this whole thing wasn’t on the BBC? Or why there had not been more coverage in the media. She know nothing about it and is very active in her own party.

Didn’t have time for a long chat, but will catch up with her later and give her more info.

BernardBlacksWineIcelolly · 13/10/2018 17:12

the BBC are really going to look like the sexist dicks they are for not covering this if they don't sort themselves out pronto

great article, thanks for linking

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 13/10/2018 17:20

I don't think the BBC are going to sort themselves out because it is becoming increasingly clear that their bias isn't an accident, it is due to a powerful lobby with a culture of bullying in the BBC in which those who don't agree are shut up.
It's possible that there will be a fight back from within the BBC but equally likely it will continue and get pointed to as part of the evidence why the BBC is not fit for purpose when it is eventually defunded.

tobee · 13/10/2018 17:42

Once again underlining that they haven't learnt from Savile.

Serfisafleur · 13/10/2018 18:36

The BBC has more than double the number of trans identified people in it's organisation compared to the rest of the population. Just sayin'.

GulagsMyArse · 13/10/2018 18:43

oh thats interesting, do you know how many?

Serfisafleur · 13/10/2018 19:11

Maybe @R0wantrees will be along to help Grin

It's something like more than 1 in 50 compared to 1 in 100 in the general population.

TallulahWaitingInTheRain · 13/10/2018 19:15

such a restful experience to read something that is neither a bunch of gaslighting bullshit nor an attempt to critique arguments that are a load of gaslighting bullshit.

OK I just bothered to Google my own facts and it's actually FOUR times higher than the general population according to the Express...
1 in 50 compared to 1 in 200.

DisrespectfulAdultFemale · 13/10/2018 19:16

The Indie is, too, Angry.

GulagsMyArse · 13/10/2018 19:25

Serfisafleur thanks, yes thats quite high.

Binglebong · 13/10/2018 19:55

I have decided I like the chosen pronouns being used by the BBC provided they have a photo of the subject visible at the same time. The report calling Karen White she with the very male looking prision photo will have peaked half the audience.

Less good in other media or without the photos though. And the lack of coverage is inexcusable but widespread.

On the plus side it has made me question my bias. I even like the daily mail a bit now!

theOtherPamAyres · 13/10/2018 20:06

Hands up all those people who have colleagues/friends who buy the Daily Express "because my nan likes to do the puzzle page".

Yeah right Grin It can't just be me.

The centrist/historically left media are in a bit of a bind over Gender Recognition, aren't they?

They wouldn't want to alienate the LBGT who appear to spearhead Trans "Equality" (sic), would they?

They wouldn't want to call into question Jezza's judgement, or the role of key people like Jess Philips, Sarah Champion, Gavin Shukar, Tonia Antoniazzi and Tulip Siddiq (Labour MPs) in the proposals to reform the GRA, would they?

And it's only women's safety/sport/spaces, or a generation of gender confused young people, that is at stake. Not like it was important stuff.

HandsOffMyRights · 13/10/2018 20:33

Thank you Tim for having the decency to call a man a man when other media will not.

IAmAllAsttonishnent · 13/10/2018 20:43

🤔 This situation (one loud PC group directly clashing with another equally loud PC group) was inevitable, wasn’t it?

We live in a completely deluded generation under the guise of ‘modern thinking’ and the fear of ‘offending’ peoples right to be absolutely exactly what they want to be.

Forget post truth politics- we’re living post truth lives.

AmateurSwami · 13/10/2018 20:48

I hate this part : “liberal mania for "rights””. As if human rights are an abstract idea.

However I strongly agree with this part

“He may wish to change his name and dress differently and - in a civilised, tolerant society - there is no reason why we shouldn't treat him with courtesy in his new identity. But you cannot buck the scientific truth that he is still male despite his appearance.”

AmateurSwami · 13/10/2018 20:49

I will treat you with respect, I’m happy to use your chosen pronouns and name etc. However I cannot align my mind to think “you are in a dress, despite having a penis you’re female now”

I find it impossible to understand

BlackeyedSusan · 13/10/2018 20:54

It needs to be in papers like the express, daily mail, sun, etc. everyone needs to know about it. These and the times amd metro cover a large swather of society. Shame about BBC and guardian though.
