Risk assessment must include the individual’s stage of transition; their particular needs; any history of sexual exploitation, violence or abuse; evidence of motivation to exploit, control and/or manipulate others (including coercive control); and risk to the individual or others of consensual sexual activity, pregnancy or sexual assault. This assessment also needs to include transition plans before prison, future intentions after serving their sentence, and any risk to, or impact on the individual and to others of moving, or not moving, prison.

Impact on the individual and OTHERS !! This paragraph in paticular

What a load of ineffectual waffle.

And what an abdication of duty to females.
They could have just said, females have rights that can't be identified into, and the incarceration with exclusively members of one's own sex is one of those rights we intend to hold sacrosanct.

They could have said 'no males whatsoever'.

They could have said 'no males whatsoever'.

That would have been a short and perfectly written article on the subject.
Just a simple NO.

The Equalities Act needs to be changed so that organisations have to justify why they AREN’T using single sex exemptions, not why they are.

Thingybob · 12/10/2018 20:20

I agree all those details are essential for a thorough risk assessment so they also need to be available for every other scenario, e.g. when assessing the suitability of a transwoman for a bed in a woman's refuge or when vetting a Girl Guide volunteer.

This.

MIdgebabe · 12/10/2018 20:28

SO a transwomen is entitled to a full risk assessment , which is essentially “ we need to find evidence of misdemeanours to exclude this person from a woman space.

Whereas a man, who presents The same or lower risk to women is automatically excluded?

How can that be allowed?

Why can’t men just sign a piece of paper to say they promise never to hurt a woman?

I need to walk away from this as I had panic nightmares last night .

That's barmy. I bet there are men in prison for say fraud who'd be less danger to women than Karen White, but we don't let them into women's prisons because they're male. What precisely will a male human have to do to prove that he's enough of a danger not to deserve access because he says so?

TallulahWaitingInTheRain · 12/10/2018 20:50

If we're talking risk assessment, given the overlap between cross dressing and other paraphilias, being under the trans umbrella as currently defined ought really to be a red flag rather than a reason to abandon normal safeguarding procedure.
