The article even comes with a trigger warning for transphobia:

My favourite too.

VickyEadie · 12/10/2018 08:20

I went to university in 1976. I was very left-wing (though quite thinly-read, politically speaking) but I do recall that I was sometimes bemused by some of the 'this is what you must all think or you're a Nazi' propaganda we were expected to Hoover up uncritically. The TRAs have done a very good job with students, haven't they?

Rumbledore · 12/10/2018 08:37

The organisations responsible for the tweet and its content are explicitly transphobic groups, largely responsible for the recent wave of transphobic flyers, stickers and materials distributed in the university and Students’ Association’s buildings.

I love that someone has commented under the name Aimee Challenor...

What I loved even more is that some dimwit thought the comment was serious.

"I for one am very happy that I can finally “identify” my way into lesbian spaces. Those ladies were being very selfish denying my penis entry into their hot, hot girl-on-girl scenes! Now I just put on a dress and lipstick and they HAVE to include my penis or be denounced as bigots."

That was my second favourite comment.

eelbecomingforyou · 12/10/2018 08:44

That article in The Student newspaper is one of the most biased pieces of crap I've seen in a long time.

Ridiculous situation. So a woman standing up for women's rights is transphobic??

LonnyVonnyWilsonFrickett · 12/10/2018 08:47

Brilliant comments though. I echo one of them: EUSA are melts.

FloralBunting · 12/10/2018 08:54

Sadly, the good comment will likely not make the author readdress their worldview, it will confirm the view that the entire world is transphobic and cissexist and AWAs are totally heroic.

The comments are excellent. It still seems surreal to me that respected professionals can be removed for simply sharing information about public meetings and consultations etc. These attempts at rule by fear by the trans lobby can only be stopped by women speaking out en masse but at a personal level there are obvious concerns over jobs etc. Horrifying.

vicviking · 12/10/2018 09:37

Well done to the Rector.
ChattyLion on another thread said Universities UK should co-ordinate a joint statement from vice chancellors on this issue. I agree. This is not just about freedom of speech. This is about a narrative that requires people to either be silent or tell huge porkies not to be in the firing line. All Universities should make it clear that it is not transphobic to believe people can't change sex and that extending trans rights to allow self id has implications for women's rights which should be freely discussed.

TimeLady · 12/10/2018 09:56

Just mentioning the News Editor, Mei Futonaka, who wrote this article on this thread in case anyone is doing a CV background check in the future.

GRALetter · 12/10/2018 10:24

I have written to the Rector in support. I sincerely hope the University stands up for women and doesn't give in to this nonsense.

ShimmyShimmyYa · 12/10/2018 10:41

ah! the comments section makes me happy- there is some sense in the world!

Urbanbeetler · 12/10/2018 10:43

Someone referred to Professer Katherine Stock’s speech in the House of Lords. Is there anything on that in these boards?

Bitter

I'd get that comment withdrawn if I were you. Honestly, it doesn't sound well.

Manderleyagain · 12/10/2018 11:19

The student groups have written to local MPs to tell them not to go to the meeting - I wonder what they said... 'do not listen to the scary ladies.' The really have no faith in their own arguments.

Edinburgh constituency members email/write to your MP and urge them to go.

BitterAndOnlySlightlyTwisted You’re going way too far with that comment.

TwistedStitch · 12/10/2018 12:56

I haven't seen any of the usual suspects commenting on this. Is it possible that they are (belatedly) realising that thought-policing is not a good look for them?

Manderleyagain · 12/10/2018 16:09

ChattyLion on another thread said Universities UK should co-ordinate a joint statement from vice chancellors on this issue
Vicviking what thread is that. Yes it's a good idea. I wonder how to try and make it happen.

RiverTam · 12/10/2018 16:13

oh look, I've been deleted for a personal attack (I assume) against someone who isn't on this thread, who is a public figure (of a kind) and who makes it their business to be vile to women, all in the public domain.

Well, boo fucking hoo if they didn't like it. Don't like it, don't dish it out.

Urbanbeetler · 12/10/2018 20:18

Thanks Tiger.
