Two such depressing headlines this morning, I find it hard to believe things will ever change. Please, give me some hope!

No, I don't believe we're losing the fight.

What I do believe, is that something horrific will happen, one of the "that will never happen" of the truly awful kind, and it will be then that the Woke brigade will realise "oh.......shit".

But not will be too late.

ADastardlyThing · 06/10/2018 08:34

Not = then

Charliethefeminist · 06/10/2018 08:36

I think there is a thread on no outsiders

Charliethefeminist · 06/10/2018 08:37

Aha - it's your thread

tediousnamechange · 06/10/2018 08:43

Yes I'm reading it all again today after a tad more sleep and really not happy.

Charliethefeminist · 06/10/2018 08:51

Did you see the Google preview option. Also that it's on offer for 29.99

I'm sure the book has lots of good stuff from some great women. There are around 50 contributors, so you could probably overlook Charlie & co

Ereshkigal · 06/10/2018 12:27

It does bring up the question, can you be transgender and feminist or is the upholding of trans rights always going to be at the cost of women’s rights?

I think it's also that transgender ideology is the antithesis of anything which deserves the name "feminism". I don't believe it's possible for any male person to be feminist. They will always find a way to centre males, even unconsciously.

Barracker · 06/10/2018 12:33

We're not losing the fight because...deep breath...this is not a short term thing, and we are just a tiny part of the timeline in which women fight men to insist upon being treated fairly. Each generation has their own battle and it's different depending on the country of your birth.

I give credit for our generation's ingenious approach though. Having granted women legal equality in theory, it was quite the plot twist to decide that females don't exist after all.
But that can only ever be a short term blip.
The profound biological differences between the sexes is impossible to ignore for long. It's easier to sustain a belief in chemtrails and alien abductions than it is to pretend you don't notice that half the species have babies and the other half don't. This position will collapse eventually.

There will be another fight for my daughter's generation, and I don't know what it will be.

But for us, we have the unenviable task not of nobly fighting for the vote, or for bodily autonomy, but instead the very undignified fight to prove that half of humanity are female, and deserve acknowledgement and rights on that basis.

It feels bloody stupid to waste time doing this absolute bullshit. But that's our battle. Proving females exist at all. Ludicrous and an embarrassment to humanity.

Hold the line. The truth will out before long and we'll pass the baton to our daughters.

wingwarbler · 06/10/2018 12:45

As always what Barracker says so eloquently!

Plus as I was going to say, there has been an agenda driving us to this point, they have planned and worked and schemed for this time, picking up 'everyday' misogynists along the way. They knew deep down this was coming and cannot help but reveal their true selves.

It will get worse before it gets better. But hold fast. This too shall pass.

"The first time I changed the world was when I told my mates to call me she rather than he. I literally constructed a new world where its possible to understand myself as a genderqueer woman, despite being asigned male at birth simply by changing the language to describe myself. This is why language and pronouns are so important. Its about creating a world in which trans people are allowed to exist"

"And I can honestly say that the work that trans people do for each other means that, for me at least, the trans community is a beautiful place to be. Despite our differences, we have each others' backs"

I don't think that we are losing a fight. To my mind, the fight-back from women has just started.

In my lifetime, women have never had to come together as an interest group that unites females whatever their class, colour, age, sexual orientation etc.

We are only just starting to organise in real life, not just social media, with the aim of influencing other women, governments, services and businesses. We've come a long way.

The real battle will start once the government has published the findings from the consultation exercise.

R0wantrees · 06/10/2018 12:55

Apologies, I meant to bold this:

Sometimes I feel the fight is lost because women, particularly young women, don't give a stuff. They're so concerned to be politically correct and inclusive that they don't see that they are being oppressed. They are so keen to be attractive to men (what's changed?) that they make themselves into Barbie lookalikes and don't see that as oppression, either.

fight to prove that half of humanity are female. We don't need to prove it. We are it. We need to stop people claiming that female is anything other than just that.

FloralBunting · 06/10/2018 13:33

You don't stop fighting this kind of fight until you're dead. Very dramatic sounding thing to say, but I mean it. Women have had the vote for merely 100 years. Husband could still rape their wives with impunity until roughly 30 years ago.

Yes, it was a ridiculous unpredictable plot twist that the counter movement would be to attempt to dissolve any meaningful distinction of sex, although it's probably a logical consequence, ironically given that it is so illogical, of postmodern thought.

But this is the battle. The one you're in. No one ever gets to choose their battles, not really. We fight on the front we find ourselves on. This is it. I would never have thought I'd have to argue that it's wrong to mutilate children for feeling different or unhappy. Or that I would have to say a woman has the right to say no to sexual approach without being shamed for it. Or that males do not magically lose all threat potential by simply saying they are not male. Or that women never, ever have penises.

It's ridiculous and absurd, but here I am. And here I will stay until either these pernicious idea

Charliethefeminist · 06/10/2018 14:52

Floral, that's right. You never give in.

FloralBunting · 06/10/2018 15:00

Oh, the end of my post got chopped off!

I was building up to a Martin Luther finale of 'Here I stand, I can do no other', but it's probably not the best quote for a Catholic to appropriate.Grin

bluetitsaretits · 06/10/2018 15:22

I think a lot of people still don't realise there is a battle yet, but the number who do is rising.

It's an emotional roller coaster really but I keep reminding myself that it is likely to be a long one. I suppose that 100 years of women's suffrage is just the blink of an eye in human history -puts things in rather sobering perspective for me.
As my granny used to say "the truth is made of cork" - it bobs up to the surface eventually. Just so sad to think of the casualties in the meantime.
This is why it's important for women to support each other, including taking a moment to acknowledge small victories. It will help us to keep on keeping on for the long haul.

Bolloxio · 06/10/2018 16:31

Yes mimmymum was gloating on Twitter that um, we were complaining that it had been cancelled but actually it was trans-inclusive so hahaha. I don't quite get her logic, but there we go.

Eh, so apparently we cannot possibly find issue with topshop removing a feminist advert, just because a transwoman contributed to the book? How does that work? I don't get why anyone would not complain about the removal of the stall..just because one of the contributes to the book was trans?

R0wantrees · 06/10/2018 17:02

I don't quite get her logic

Indeed!

WaltzingIntoTheTide · 06/10/2018 17:45

Wow my first deleted post ever!

I wonder who reported it...I do hope they didn’t break a nail typing so fast.

I mentioned that someone I had recently seen on Twitter reminded me of a quote by Caitlyn Jenner about how ‘the hardest thing about being a woman is deciding what to wear in the morning’. www.independent.co.uk/news/people/caitlyn-jenner-criticised-after-claiming-the-hardest-part-of-being-a-woman-is-figuring-out-what-to-a6730326.html
A most excellent example of a woman, for sure. I, for one, have trouble getting to both of my jobs on time because I am crippled with indecision about clothes every morning. It’s ok though because my boss is a woman so she completely understands and is never on time herself.

Hopefully MN that is vague enough to be acceptable...
