What’s your definition of womxn?

The Wellcome Collection are doing an event about about ‘the ways that womxn are included, excluded, catalogued and classified.’
wellcomecollection.org/events/W5e9eyYAACUAMqcz

Rather than explain what womxn means, they link to the Urban Dictionary definition.
www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=womxn

If you’re using a word and aren’t sure if everyone reading will know what it means you could explain it rather than link to a site where anyone can write the definition.

IMO.

Reversed, I hope that means? Or is that too much to hope for

Damn my clumsy fingers - yes, reversed, clambered doon frae, did an about take. 😂

TerfedOff · 10/10/2018 14:56

Yay.

Another success.

Tide's a turning.

Barracker · 10/10/2018 14:57

More intersectional than womyn because it includes trans-women and women of color.

The more this bullshit continues the more appealing 'cervix haver' is starting to sound.

I'm thinking of starting a political movement for cervix-havers. Who is with me?

ButchyRestingFace · 10/10/2018 15:00

Although I'm unsure whether it's because they genuinely saw the error of their ways or were just a-frighted by all the suggestions that they were actually transphobic towards transmen because they hadn't amended men to 'mxn'.

But hey, whatever gets the job done. 👍

I would assume that someone who described themselves as a "womxn" was an attention seeking prat.

thenightsky · 10/10/2018 15:10

If urban dictionary is saying 'mxn' is 'Mexican, then surely 'womxn' is an adult female Mexican Confused

Last night a very woke young man told me trans women are women and black women are women

I do so love it when men try to explain things to me.

I don't get nearly enough of it in my life. 😢

deepwatersolo · 10/10/2018 15:34

Oh, I just remembered the videos of Yolanda, a black woman who was at the time pursuing some degree to then work in social services. I wonder, how this co-option of 'omen of color' by the 'intersectional' TWAW crowd would go down with her.

I highly recommend her take on the TWAW matter:

And my favorite: Here she describes her clash with academia on the matter.

Didactylos · 10/10/2018 15:49

I am very glad the wellcome trust have retracted and made an actual 'we got it wrong' apology
However it has ruined my current game. Mr D (a linguist) had finally got the point of what Ive been saying about female erasure and has been replacing random vowels with Xs all afternoon

(its a lxxgh a mxnxte hxre at chxz Dxdactylxs)

ErrolTheDragon · 10/10/2018 15:56

he replied "that can be changed, it's coming soon

There's no arguing with stupid, is there?

FekkoTheLawyer · 10/10/2018 16:01

Awww they changed it (again).

But I took a screenshot... I hear there are a few (snif) 'goldsmiths' on the payroll...

What’s your definition of womxn?

FloraHiggins · 10/10/2018 16:36

Gah sorry, missed a page!

PenguindreamsofDraco · 10/10/2018 16:41

Ocado could take lessons from Wellcome.

DisrespectfulAdultFemale · 10/10/2018 16:48

They could, indeed. Wellcome were amazingly stupid in the first instance so I'm glad that they properly apologised and didn't go down the weaselly "we're sorry that you feel offended" route.

breastfeedingclownfish · 10/10/2018 16:50

wanx

Do they not have a dictionary in the archive?
