Amazing work - I'm going to spend my tea break reading up about them.
From the BBC link:
The 2018 Nobel Peace Prize has been awarded to campaigners against rape in warfare Nadia Murad and Denis Mukwege.

Ms Murad is a Yazidi woman who was tortured and raped by Islamic State militants and later became the face of a campaign to free the Yazidi people.

Mr Mukwege is a Congolese gynaecologist who, along with his colleagues, has treated tens of thousands of victims.

Yes amazing work. I’m so pleased they’ve been recognised.

GoldenWonderwall · 05/10/2018 11:20

Well deserved for both of them. Heart breaking that we live in a world where this is happening.

DuckingGoodPJs · 05/10/2018 11:34

Well deserved, congratulations to both of them.

LizzieSiddal · 05/10/2018 11:50

Fantastic that they are being recognised for their work.

WokerThanWoke · 05/10/2018 12:03

This is so positive to hear. I'd never heard of them before.

silentcrow · 05/10/2018 12:31

That's wonderful!

I'd like to read more about their work, any links? Sounds well worth supporting.

gendercritter · 05/10/2018 12:34

Brilliant!

I think a lot about the Yazidi women. I read the most horrendous accounts of what some of them endured and now they've mostly dropped out of the press. Which isn't unusual I know but I am delighted they get the spotlight on them again indirectly because of this. I wonder how much practical help their community has had to work through their traumas.

gendercritter · 05/10/2018 12:36

It seems Nadia has a book coming out. I'll definitely buy it

Both are amazing people who thoroughly deserve the Nobel Peace Prize.

This also highlights the horrific sexual violence that has always accompanied wars, but is now deliberately used as a tool of war

ErrolTheDragon · 05/10/2018 13:11

I just heard that on the news and came to check if there was a thread yet.

Really good choice by the Nobel committee. Appalling that such people are needed, of course.

I was about to say that following the physics and chemistry prizes, this year has been good for women, but then I remembered why there will be no prize for literature this year ... well, I suppose that was a good decision in the circumstances.

FloralBunting · 05/10/2018 13:19

Excellent.

Rape has always been used as a tool of war.

WokerThanWoke · 05/10/2018 14:05

I'm not a huge fan of Amal Clooney and the media circus stuff, but she has represented Nadia Murad and often does talks/attends conferences with her. Which does shine a light on her and the Yazidi women, globally.

Imnobody4 · 05/10/2018 14:51

I think Denis Mukwege was considered before, when Malala won. Really pleased at this.

BernardBlacksWineIcelolly · 05/10/2018 15:09

this is fantastic. what amazing people they both are
