I am awaiting a phone call from my MP regarding the proposed GRA reforms. I know I will panic and waffle, or just back down as am crap at confrontation.

Can anyone give me a couple of key questions / points to help me focus and actually get my point across clearly?

How about making a statement;

''Women only spaces and services are provided by sex not gender. Women have needs based on our biology, that cannot change. At the moment we are protected by the Equality Act, but self ID is already erasing those protections and rights.
For example, men who self identify as women have been given access to women only hospital wards and prisons, and women have been harmed.
Why are you supporting this?''

Not quick but your best guide to suitable questions is looking at WUPK guidance.

Does the MP believe it's possible to change sex?

After Penny Mordaunt's comments to Stonewall at the conference event last night, can women have any confidence that the consultation is impartial?

Organisations keep stating that there are no implications for the EA 2010, despite this being the main platform of protest and concerns from women's groups. Nonetheless, organisations, including Local Government City Councils are openly stating that EA2010 must be updated to be in line with the expected changes to GRA 2004. How can we be confident we can keep single-sex exemptions in the light of that?

Have they seen Jacinta Brooks in the news? Do they think that should be in women’s spaces?

Suggest they start reading the times?

What party is your MP from?

Thanks all. I do know all this I just don't want to blow my chance to be heard.

RepealtheGRA - they're Labour

If they’re Labour I would go with the WPUK demands - they’re labour affiliated and push for open debate and you want them to meet with them. Well done for getting a call back Smile

So, my MP finally called yesterday. I had assumed it wasn't going to happen so was pleasantly surprised.

Having expected to have to defend my position, basically every point I made was met with 'yes I know, it's ridiculously flawed'.

They (claim) behind scenes many, many MPs agree but imminent problem is Brexit. If / when legislation on GRA reform comes forward, vocal opposition will arise within parliament but likely shitstorm they'd bring on themselves now would just occupy their time and focus without achieving anything.

I did raise it being a Labour party position - in my MPs experience it is not popular among all of any one faction within the party but again Brexit division is bad enough, they don't wish to highlight more division until needed. They don't expect legislation to come forward anytime soon as consultation period makes it clear how controversial it will be and government has bigger (Brexit) fish to fry.

Overall was pleasantly surprised and felt more positive. The outrage, particularly re Karen White, from my MP was probably more strongly expressed than my own and I can't see them voting self ID through. If they are correct, many other MP s feel same.

Fingers crossed.
