Vile man. Vile men.

OP posts:
FermatsTheorem · 03/10/2018 20:22

Having watched Kavanaugh in front of the Senate I think he's demonstrated he's unsuitable for the job regardless of the allegations.

This!

And the terrifying thing is that given the current state America is in, it will not make any difference. The man will end up on SCOTUS, and once there, will help to overturn Roe v. Wade at the first opportunity he gets.

pallisers · 03/10/2018 20:38

I am in the US and am a citizen and his statements yesterday - and in particular his horrible mocking of Dr. Ford with his supporters (including some women) laughing and baying at this mockery have been a new low. Clinton wasn't far off with her basket of deplorables.
Unfortunately there seems to be a new low every day. This one is awful. Someone phoned into an NPR show today, a 50 year old man with sons in high school who was in despair and he said "if this kind of talk about a female victim of assault is ok from the president, why would we think teenage boys will hold back - they are being explicitly told that if they do bad things or even say bad things, they will be defended and rewarded".

The republicans have demonstrated that there isn't even the residue or a shadow or a ghost of a moral compass left in that party. How they could tolerate this is beyond me when there are multiple equally conservative judges ready to be confirmed if that toad kavanagh is refused the job. I've said it before but imagine you are a conservative female judge (there is one on trump's list), equally qualified as kavanaugh but without a history of allegations of disordered drinking and assault - and you see that entitled male prick get the top job ahead of you.

In the words of someone on another thread, I'm almost at peak man at the moment. My husband actually feels the same.

pallisers · 03/10/2018 20:40

I watched that snake, sarah huckebee sanders tell her usual bare-faced lies at the press briefing today and wished a journalist would stand up and ask her how she lives with herself letting such lies drop from her mouth without shame. - even seeing her on screen makes me feel dirty.

AngryAttackKittens · 03/10/2018 20:41

I've been at peak misogynist for many years now, since childhood in fact.

Galvantula · 03/10/2018 21:01

I felt total rage listening to him mocking her to the jeers of his supporters at the rally. Total fucking rage.

I think if I'd been watching his stupid orange face too it might have tipped me over the edge.

Just so callous. Listening to him twatting on about this poor man's life being ruined.

I arrived at work quite ragey. Blush

How the fuck he is leader of anything I still find disturbing.

Melanippe · 03/10/2018 23:03

Sooooo, rape as a weapon, fine, women being taken at face value, a terrible rabbit hole down which no civilised society should fall. We see you.

VeryVerySilly · 04/10/2018 11:26

I'm saying LISTEN to people making rape accusations but questions need to be asked such as who and where AND if they have any evidence to back up the claim, if I was to accuse someone of murder randomly it would be completely ridiculous of anyone to believe me if I had no evidence to back it up and it was 30 odd years ago like in the Kavanaugh case. No matter what crime is being discussed the accuser shouldn't just be believed because it is an extremely sensitive subject. And I understand how believing someone isn't the same as a conviction in court but believing someone without evidence is what leads to lifetime reputation damage just because of an accusation. And trump is right to say that it's a scary time but not just for men but for women too if this culture of "always believe the accuser" becomes the norm. Wait for a verdict of the judge before you pronounce someone guilty. Absolutely ridiculous how that even has to be stated.

Charliethefeminist · 04/10/2018 11:28

So disgusting, vile, disgusting person.

ThanksHunkyJesus · 04/10/2018 11:38

VeryVerySilly

Very very apt username. Are women supposed to turn up at the police station with a file full of evidence? Any other crimes you think that should be the case? What about child sexual abuse? Should children be required to prove their case before they're listened to?

VeryVerySilly · 04/10/2018 12:07

No not a case full of evidence, ANY EVIDENCE which in the case against Kavanaugh there is none. If a child says they have been abused or touched or anything like that then it is more believable depending on the age, for example where would a 7 year old get the idea from? That in itself substantiates the claim as child of that age is usually presumed to have no knowledge of things like that, and after the claim there would be an investigation and if conclusive evidence is found the person will be convicted, but an adult can have reason to lie and deceive in an accusation hence evidence is needed to substantiate the claim. Anything else?

bigKiteFlying · 04/10/2018 12:14

I know so many men who were not assholes in their Youth, Surely there will be one available as SCOTUS who did not assault women.

I said this to DH who said he must be the only one who could do want they wanted - most obvious is to restrict abortion rights.

The we watched John Oliver on this - his name was on a list which had 24 other names - there was a clip of the guy who did list for them all 25 were the same all completely fine - ie would do what the right wing supporters wanted there nothing special about Brett Kavanaugh.

lunamoth581 · 04/10/2018 12:50

VeryVerySilly, you seem very very confused about what’s happening here in the US at the moment.

We are talking about elevating Kavanaugh to the position of justice of the Supreme Court. The hearings are to determine whether he is suitable for the responsibility and honor of sitting on the highest court in the land.

He is not.

He lied, under oath, to Congress, about multiple things.

www.google.com/amp/s/www.vox.com/platform/amp/2018/10/2/17927606/brett-kavanaugh-perjury-lied-congress

He’s shown himself incapable of impartiality. He went on a rage-fueled diatribe against Democrats for trying to “ruin his life.” During a hearing to establish truth about a very serious accusation.

www.nytimes.com/interactive/2018/10/03/opinion/kavanaugh-law-professors-letter.html

www.butterfliesandwheels.org/2018/threats-under-oath/

The important thing here isn’t preserving Kavanaugh’s “reputation,” and it isn’t the fairytale that men are suddenly somehow in danger of being locked away by a rash of women making false accusations.

The issue is if this partisan liar is fit to sit on the Supreme Court.

He is not, because he is a partisan liar.

ThanksHunkyJesus · 04/10/2018 12:52

The woman's testimony is evidence. You're suggesting she shouldn't have the right to make accusations unless she's got a cast iron case and sufficient evidence to prosecute.

My ex assaulted and coerced me into sex. He raped me. Me not having any evidence doesn't actually change what he did, nor does it negate my right to talk about it or if I chose to, go to the police about it. I know I never ever will, because of idiots who would twist it around and it would end up being my fault and who wouldn't believe me because I can't prove it was rape. Ironically, that's what he used to tell me too, when he was emotionally abusing me.

If he had stolen something from me, I would go to the police and they would look for the evidence. What he stole from me was my trust, innocence and self confidence. I'm still affected 10 years later. Why isn't she allowed to be affected some 30 years later and to want to talk about what he did?

thatwouldbeanecumenicalmatter · 04/10/2018 12:57

Oh looks here it’s a Feminism thread and*Veryverysilly is here to impart his manly views that yet again women should pipe the fuck down.

You seem to have lost your way Veryverysilly MRA website is that way >>>>

thatwouldbeanecumenicalmatter · 04/10/2018 12:59

Seriously ignore him folks, he gets his kicks from telling us wimmin’ we’re overreacting/hysterical.

VeryVerySilly · 04/10/2018 13:28

Of course a women's testimony is evidence but one accusation without any supporting evidence isn't enough. I'm also very sorry that that happened to you, and it's not that I think she shouldn't be allowed to talk about it and of course it would affect her 30 years later that's not what I'm arguing, it's that her word is being taken seriously in the decision of making him scotus even though her claim hasn't been proven to be true of course if it is true they can lock him up and throw away the key, and from his deplorable conduct through the whole thing I don't think he should be scotus anyway. However unsubstantiated claims shouldn't hold the weight it has done in what could potentially be an attempt at political sabotage through public accusation. That's all.

VeryVerySilly · 04/10/2018 13:35

thatwouldbeanecumenicalmatter
I find it funny how you think I'm trying to hush women up by talking to women, and then feel the appropriate response is to try and hush me up and tell me to go somewhere else when I haven't tried to do anything of the like to you, how about contribute to the discussion instead of shutting it down because we disagree. And the whole statement about manly views is pathetic, not all men share my views and not all women share my views but some do on both sides so please don't be so quite frankly sexist to assume my sex based on my views or vice versa. That type of identity politics is what drives people away from discussion and societal progression.

QuentinWinters · 04/10/2018 13:46

Steve Gannon is also scared
uk.businessinsider.com/steve-bannon-oprah-women-take-charge-of-society-2018-2

I think it's great. The dickhead patriarchs are rattled, because things are changing.

GrinitchSpinach · 04/10/2018 14:49

Well it's not just one accusation without any supporting evidence, is it? It's up to three separate credible accusations now, with dozens of contemporaries of Kavanaugh and his accusers coming forward and attempting to testify to their corroborating evidence. The FBI, at the direction of Trump, has turned them away---and failed to interview Ford. There must be some kind of a name for this, but "investigation" is not it.

Anyway. Thank you to the women who have argued patiently and clearly on this thread. A certain segment of society just doesn't want to listen.

I think Adam Serwer sums their movement up nicely in this piece, entitled "The Cruelty is the Point":

www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archive/2018/10/the-cruelty-is-the-point/572104/

Melanippe · 04/10/2018 14:50

Blah blah blah poor men blah blah shut up stupid women blah blah.

Rinse and repeat ad nauseam.

thatwouldbeanecumenicalmatter · 04/10/2018 16:22

@veryverysilly, I’m not normally so dismissive of any posters comments but the only contributions you make to MN threads all come from an angle of ‘women, stop making a fuss’ - there’s definitely a pattern...

VeryVerySilly · 04/10/2018 16:51

There's a difference between telling women to "pipe the fuck down" and "Maybe you are making too big a deal our of this issue" and I'm not even saying women are making a fuss about this, I just think the direction of outrage of fuss is in the wrong place in this instance, as I was trying to highlight the issue of due process becoming less respected over time. I encourage any woman who has suffered rape/sexual assault/harassment to speak up and make themselves known so more scumbags end up in prison. If anything I want more women speaking about this, my problem with this whole thing is the increased importance placed on unsubstantiated claims of any sort, not just rape although that's where it seems to crop up the most currently. And I really don't think that's such a radical view to dismiss to be honest.

CoolCarrie · 04/10/2018 16:53

VeryVerySilly you certainly are, aren’t you!!! Go and play with your Trump mates.
