Noticed a thread on MNHQ sitestuff type thing on active asking why you use MN and was heartened to see that FWR seems to be one of the main reasons ppl keep coming back.

That has to be a good thing, right?

Especially now, when it's seems as though things are going backwards and the rights the suffragette movement won for us are teetering on the brink.

I hope everyone adds their bit, or even just has a read, as the contents are mostly encouraging; in that our message is getting through. Will try to link it if I can:

The minute I saw that thread I thought there was a subtext of "tell us you lot! Give us the back up we need to tell the naysayers and AWAs to piss off"

ToeToToe · 30/09/2018 10:39

I was so pleasantly surprised by that thread!

There is a real assumption that FWR is a tiny niche board tucked away, that only a few regulars use - but it's not true at all.

Wonderful women coming together to talk, or just to read and lurk. Fabulous Brew

Theswaggyotter · 30/09/2018 10:44

It’s really surprised me too -in a good way. There must be 90% or more saying fwr is the main reason they are on MN. I hope the various companies who advertise on MN are reading that thread!

SophoclesTheFox · 30/09/2018 10:44

It's, well, interesting that there a few who as well as saying they like Chat or AIBU, also feel the need to say they avoid or block the Feminism board, when this wasn't asked about

I saw that too, woker. I didn't see similar about S&B or Christmas. Which I thought was interesting in itself.

Datun · 30/09/2018 11:01

Yes, to the notion we are driving their business rather than a distraction from it.

Yes to the scales falling about misogyny, via the trans issue. The massive over reach of transactivists and it being so topical and in the public eye, has shoved misogyny straight into many women's faces.

And yes, I too was wondering whether or not it was a deliberate attempt to counter all the ways in which the site is being asked to shut women up.

Well you know the old saying, Fox...
If a virtue signaller signals and no one is around to hear it, does it count as virtue signalling?

My oh so woke SIL who may just have been in a heterosexual relationship for over 30 years however much she says they're queer once told me I couldn't possibly be a feminist because a) I got married b) I changed my name c) I have children d) I became a SAHM to look after those children.

FWR gave me my feminism back. Feel free to judge, I'm channelling Posie today, I'm angry and I don't give a flying fuck anymore

strumpetblowingatrumpet · 30/09/2018 11:34

Sorry, what does FWR stand for please? Smile

WokerThanWoke · 30/09/2018 11:52

Indeed Shots Grin

Yeah saw that thread and it made me smile a lot. Don't write much on these boards and always called myself a feminist so definitely not radicalised me in any way but love MN with a passion for FWR and S&B.

ScienceIsTruth · 30/09/2018 13:13

I'm like a lot of ppl on that thread, in that I've never thought of feminism as having anything to do with my life.
I'm in my 40s, and a sahm in a fairly traditional relationship, and it wouldn't ever have occurred to me that FWR could be relevant in my life.

My eldest dd has Aspergers and it was her struggles that took me onto the FWR boards, but it's the intelligence and breadth of knowledge of the posters that keep me coming back. You've all helped the scales fall from my eyes, and once you've seen the world as it really is, there's no going back to sleep.

I now talk to my girls about women's rights and how the struggle is far from over, and I read what I can and do what I can to help. I'm attending talks, I'm reading (thanks, Rowan!), and I'm following. I don't always post much as I feel like a fraud, but I'm always reading, listening and learning.
I've shown my girls those amazing 3D images of their reproductive system, and I'm encouraging them to read up on the suffragette movement, etc, so they understand more about women's rights and why we still have to fight.

strumpetblowingatrumpet

It stands for feminism and women's rights. They changed the name to feminist chat ages ago, but people still fondly call it FWR.

strumpetblowingatrumpet · 30/09/2018 14:09

Arh I see thanks!

ScienceIsTruth · 30/09/2018 21:04

HandsOffMyRights similar story for me as well.
WokerThanWoke, yes, I noticed that as well, and I think FWR is the only area that's happened to which is, as another poster said, pretty weird in itself.
Datun, I agree. I'm also hoping that MNHQ take note of the number of posters on there mentioning FWR, and I'm kinda also hoping that it was (as another poster mentioned) behind the reason for that thread.

I'm getting more and more addicted to FWR everyday
