Fascinating to read the list of hate crimes includes:

Transgender identity (e.g. humiliated, intimidated or threatened online for being transgender)

Because, I've just been reading Liz Kelly on conducive context of violence against women and girls.

Feminists have long noted that certain contexts are conducive to VAW: the family; institutions; conflict and transition; public space and more recently online environments. What is less common is exploration, at a theoretical level, of what connects them, what makes these spaces ones in which men are enabled to abuse women and girls.

discoversociety.org/2016/03/01/theorising-violence-against-women-and-girls/

There are no Twitter actions against death/rape threats to women and we're regularly threatened in online spaces. I take attempts to humiliate or intimidate me as part of my everyday life. Because I've been socialised as a woman, this is everyday life.

In all of my life I don't believe I have seen a poster or publicity directed at men telling them not to harass, assault, taunt, abuse, hurt, follow, intimidate girls and women as they go about their daily business.

That type of abuse obviously isn't a problem in Scotland if they didn't need to make a poster directed at those who dish out abuse to females. I'm packing my bags and moving to Scotland Hmm

Wow, are they really that stupid? Or does vawg just seem to normal that the police don’t see it??

MickHucknallspinkpancakes · 28/09/2018 15:13

I also wondered where the one for women was when I saw the campaign on Twitter.

You're right, there can't be any violence or prejudice against women there. I'll join you in the move OP.

I feel I need to point out I am happy about all of the posters they have made but unhappy about the glaring omission.

Well misogyny isn't a hate crime.

ifonlyus · 28/09/2018 15:30

dolorsit. Well that's the point. Misogyny ought to be a hate crime.

Even if it is not (yet), the Scottish government could choose to address it with a similar poster.

Indeed

Although personally I am not "sold" on the concept of hate crimes as it's being utilised currently.

BlackForestCake · 28/09/2018 21:35

I agree. The problem is who gets to say what is a hate crime? We’ve seen that if it were down to the likes of Giulana, wearing suffragette colours or a t-shirt with a slogan someone objects to would be a "hate crime."

I think I misspelled Giulana's name. No doubt that’s a hate crime too. God help you if you're dyslexic and get on the wrong side of a TRA.

OVAgroundWOMBlingfree · 28/09/2018 21:39

I might phone 111 and report a hate crime: excluding women.

enrichedatthegulags · 28/09/2018 21:45

So if I (biological woman) identify as a man, who identifies as trans woman, and then I'm protected from hate.
But if I'm a plain old woman - nada?

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 28/09/2018 21:59

It's something I find equally intriguing and abhorrent the way that vawg is just accepted generally by society. Sex is supposed to be a "protected characteristic" but it really isn't. All of the others get genuine protection (and I don't begrudge them that at all!) but women get nothing.

People do genuinely seem to think that abuse of women is kind of neutral - no one gives a shit, or thinks that this is really bad, let's make misogyny a crime.

And because "low level" misogyny is universally accepted the overton window is shifted so that we get mumsnetters posting threads about how tragic it is that a man's life can be impacted by sexual violence he inflicted on someone in their teens.
