He’s very clear.

Sounding distinctly... reasonable Smile

doctorbarbie · 27/09/2018 07:49

He's doing very well. Got in the point that the transgender mvmt is reinforcing gender stereotypes feminists have been trying to break down.

boatyardblues · 27/09/2018 07:49

Distinguished between critiquing the ideology vs the personal (abuse perpetrated against individual trans people).

borntobequiet · 27/09/2018 07:50

Great guy. Was there an attempt to shout him down at the beginning?

SlipperyLizard · 27/09/2018 07:53

Just listened to this, can’t believe Justin Webb suggested that saying a woman doesn’t have a penis perhaps shouldn’t be allowed as “free speech” (rather than what it is, of course, a statement of fact) due to its impact on other people. Horrifying.

BoreOfWhabylon · 27/09/2018 07:56

At last, someone on the BBC has said it "Women don't have penises".

Thank you Angelous Sofocleous.

zen1 · 27/09/2018 07:57

Pity he didn’t have longer.

BoreOfWhabylon · 27/09/2018 07:57

Justin Webb was talking about "transexuals'. I think people just don't realise how wide the trans umbrella is

BoreOfWhabylon · 27/09/2018 07:59

I think they said someone else is on after 8 am? Presumably with an opposing view

RaininSummer · 27/09/2018 07:59

I turned my radio on and the very first thing I heard today was ' women don't have penises'' excellent start to the day but for a split second I actually thought I was cracking up and hearing things.

littlbrowndog · 27/09/2018 08:02

Webb saying that transgender ppl have the worst life of any minority’s group EVER

they are attacked on the street blah blah blah
8 think Angelous would have been surprised by Webb’s statements as an introduction but Angelous held his line

MindTheMinotaur · 27/09/2018 08:05

Rain that made me laugh

KERALA1 · 27/09/2018 08:09

Did I just hear Justin Webb on radio 4 basically saying we all have to say a thing that is not true and has negative consequences for half the population because to do otherwise is "mean"? Wow. Disappointed in him. Where's your critical thinking man?

littlbrowndog · 27/09/2018 08:13

You did Kerala

He was doing it in a special sad voice as well

nauticant · 27/09/2018 08:17

I have always found Webb to be a strange blend of journalist and someone who actively plays "small P" politics. I remember from his time in the US that his reports often seemed "captured" by his circumstances rather than being properly objective.

boatyardblues · 27/09/2018 08:17

Apologies if I have mispelled Angeleos’ name. Time was of the essence.

Yes, Justin did imply we should mangle language and truth to spare hurt feelings.

OP posts:
sportsdirectmug · 27/09/2018 08:18

Will Justin be attacked for using the term ‘transsexuals”?

CuriousaboutSamphire · 27/09/2018 08:20

Listening now, he does sound good! Really measured. Almost everything the interviewer said sounded daft, I felt quite sorry for him, you could hear him think "What the hell have I just been forced to say?"

borntobequiet · 27/09/2018 08:28

I have just emailed Today to say how delighted I was to hear the words “women don’t have penises” uttered on the BBC.
And that whereas stats about attacks on trans people are unreliable, those on violence against women are verifiable and increasingly being encouraged by trans activists, so please not to accept their untruths uncritically.

LangCleg · 27/09/2018 08:32

He was doing it in a special sad voice as well

The fucking special fucking sad fucking voice is fucking really fucking beginning fucking to fucking piss fucking me fucking off.

I didn't use enough fuckings there, by the way.

nauticant · 27/09/2018 08:44

They did a follow-up with the president of the NUS, Shakira Martin. Not surprisingly, her views were:
Oppressed minority.
Safe spaces.

Slightly surprisingly, she completely dismissed any discussion of freedom of speech as being of no interest to students.

Procrastinator1 · 27/09/2018 09:04

No according to Shakira freedom of speech isn't a priority! She was worse that any politicians only answering with stock phrases.
Goodness when I was at university student politics had many faults but I can't imagine any student politician of the time saying that.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 27/09/2018 09:09

I bet the gulf between most students and the student politics crowd is wider than ever.

borntobequiet · 27/09/2018 09:12

Shakira was pretty unimpressive on Question Time recently.
