I need help with Girl Guides Australia

I am withdrawing my daughter from GG because GG Victoria (and probably the other states and territories) have the policy of allowing boys who say they are girls to join.
My GG leader has asked me to write a letter detailing my concerns so they can pass it on to HQ. I get the feeling they are as unhappy with the policy as I am but considering what has happened to leaders in the UK are afraid to speak out. Can anyone in UK or Aus help with what should be included in my letter? Facts and figures and where to find such in Aus would be brilliant. I am trying to research but it is nowhere near as organised over here.

If you make your protest about safe-guarding children, then you are more likely to be taken seriously. I’d think there would be considerable sensitivity around child protection in the wake of the Royal Commission into Institutional Abuse. The documents from the Commission and recommendations would be a good place to start.

Here’s a few resources to start with.

The Department of Education’s gender identity policy.

The Australian Givernment’s guidelines in recognition of gender identity.

Population statistics.

Off the top of my head - child protection legislation which you’ll find through the Victorian Department of Human Services.

And this newspaper article gives an outline of the current state of play.

Hope this helps.

There were some really compelling arguments on the Girl Guiding threads about the advantages for girls in being able to participate in single sex activities. You could look at material about the advantages of single sex schools for girls.

It would be worth asking whether girls identifying as boys are to be excluded. And what provisions are made to keep boys separate from girls.

In the UK, to my mind, the big risk is self ID enabling predators access to girls. But the loss of girl-only spaces is a tragedy. Boys flourish in mixed-sex environments, girls tend to give way to their socialisation and allow boys to lead.
