Abortion and equal marriage rights in NI

As a UK citizen I find it abhorrent that our sisters in Northern Ireland are not afforded the same rights to abortion as we and now our ROI sisters have. I'm also appalled by the lack of equal marriage legislation. We need to be formidable in our support for our NI sisters and LGBT groups and petition the Westminster government for change. Fighting trans people is not achieving this, they are a minority who do not impact our daily lives but support us in the fight for rights. We need to push the government for rights in NI

I support equal marriage rights everywhere and will continue to press for that. I'm not fighting trans people. I will push back against Anti-woman activism wherever it is promoted, though, and the removal of the ability of women and girls to set their own boundaries, and to own their own word, and speak about their sex-based oppression is not something that I need to lay aside to do anything else.

Completely agree about the situation in NI op. What do you suggest?

It's that multi tasking thing that wims are stereotypically considered good at that means we can care about more than one issue at once!

On you go then and crack on with your campaigning. You'll find that very very many women are already doing so. Odd that you think they might not.

Absolutely support equal marriage and abortion rights in NI.

It's a bit tricky when they keep voting in the DUP though.

Abortion rights and equal marriage has nothing to do with trans.

And I do wish people would stop telling me to stop worrying about one thing, to worry about something else Hmm

Abortion is a devolved issue but due to the Northern Irish parties squabbling Stormont is suspended so nothing can be done. Sinn Fean are moving towards a more liberal position on these issues but won't give up their demands for the Irish language to have official status which scuppers agreement.

Stella Creasy is doing good work on this iasue and garnering cross party support for Westminster to take the initiative but I'm not sure if Westminster has the power to do so. She was of course instrumental in getting free abortions for Northern Ireland women in England yesterday, again with some surprising, but welcome support from Tories like Andrea Leadsom and Sir Peter Bottomley.
