An ad for this brand www.modibodi.co.uk/ just popped up in my Facebook feed, and ridiculous as it may seem, it was a pleasant surprise to see the words women, girls and female used throughout their site and marketing materials. After Thinx et al relegated us to bleeders and menstruators etc, thought people might like knowing there's an alternative. I haven't tried them, so can't vouch for quality.

Yay! I find I am having this reaction too, whenever women and females are referred to properly I’m having little bursts of joy. It makes you realise the whole entire world hasn’t gone completely mental. Yet.

FlowerpotFairyHouse · 23/09/2018 23:01

Yes. I was similarly heartened when I received a smear reminder letter explaining the purpose amd impirtance of them for women.

The word women was used several times during the letter and there was not a single reference to "people with cervixes" because most of us just call them, you know, women.

IfIWasABirdIdFlyIn2ACeilingFan · 23/09/2018 23:05

Ooh thanks OP! I’m in the market for some and refuse to buy from thinx.

Charliethefeminist · 23/09/2018 23:06

Nice to give a positive mention to a brand instead of the seemingly endless list of dreadfulness. I guess the TRA will be on them now, though. Hope they're made of stern stuff.

FloralBunting · 23/09/2018 23:12

I just can't deal with the 'bleeders' thing because it reminds so much of my mum clouting me and calling me a 'little bleeder' when I was little!! Horrible word.

Ridiculous that it has got to the stage of being pleased to see the words women and girls being connected to periods.

FoldyRoll · 23/09/2018 23:27

It really is utter bollocks that such basic glimpses of fact should cheer us.

That thought did make me think twice about posting Charlie, but fuck 'em. We're not here to be silenced, it's worth supporting a company doing it right and if they know what side their bread is buttered on (billions of women and girls who have periods vs a handful of vocal TRA's) then they should be fine.

Has anyone used these? Do they work? I get very heavy periods for a couple of days (horribly heavy).

Taylor22 · 23/09/2018 23:47

How do these work?

KatVonGulag · 24/09/2018 07:49

Reviews of them seem to be good.

Thinking about them for DD1 who really struggles with tampons. Just can't use them.

(But also likes water sports!!)

KatVonGulag · 24/09/2018 07:50

I think they have a washable antibacterial core thingy !

Unsure how this works with a swim suit though. Maybe water resistant on the outside

BettyDuMonde · 24/09/2018 09:24

That’s how I felt when I saw this Always insta-ad.

Of course, there was a comment whingeing about how the poem wasn’t inclusive of Transmen and Enbys - I almost replied to point out what a shit poem it would be, but the commentator was about 25 years my junior and only had about 30 followers, and I’m not nearly evilterfy enough to knowingly upset a vulnerable teenager, despite what our detractors want to believe.

Oh that's brilliant. I'm in the market for some of these. I'll go and check them out. Nice one op.

QuizteamBleakley · 24/09/2018 11:06

Hang on - they refer to 'menstruating inidividuals' at one point.

Noqont · 24/09/2018 11:12

Damn. I did wonder if they were just saying it.

AsAProfessionalFekko · 24/09/2018 13:11

I don't tweet but you can quote me.

'If you're a fucking what? Go on say the word..

Rhynswynd · 24/09/2018 13:19

Leak freak on Facebook makes these undies to order and has great fabrics.

Also, it does make me happy to see women and girls used. Which then makes me sad because it is becoming unusual.

moofolk · 24/09/2018 13:24

I think saying menstruating individual once on a website is ok, as long as it's not instead of saying women and girls.

Partly for the usual not all women and girls menstruate but also to break up the repetition of language a bit. I have been known, when faced with puddles off wee near the toilet at home to shout "Everyone in this house who has a willy come to the bathroom now!" (that is everyone other than me, I really shouldn't be telling them how to use one, but hey that's another issue).

FlowerpotFairyHouse · 25/09/2018 07:13

Partly for the usual not all women and girls menstruate... I think my daughter, who doesn't yet menstruate, and my best friend, who no longer menstruates, can cope with reading about women and girls in the context of sanitary protection. It neither confuses nor upsets them. And we have managed without references to menstruators etc for millennia.

lynmilne65 · 25/09/2018 07:34

I just bought cheapish Black full body ones!

lynmilne65 · 25/09/2018 07:35

Sadly now one Tena 😑

TerfsUp · 25/09/2018 07:41

I think my daughter, who doesn't yet menstruate, and my best friend, who no longer menstruates, can cope with reading about women and girls in the context of sanitary protection Ruddy lack of paragraph breaks (yes, I know I could write this in MS Word and then paste but I am under-caffeinated and therefore grumpy). I am one of those non-menstruators, as I had a hysterectomy for cervical cancer some years ago. It doesn't bother me at all to read about menstruating women and girls. That's basic biology.

JuniperBeer · 25/09/2018 07:45

Can someone please help the folks out on here about Thinx.. I’ve tried! www.mumsnet.com/Talk/_chat/3372579-Does-anyone-use-those-period-pants#prettyPhoto

SuperLambBananas · 25/09/2018 08:51

Recently I was reading an article under a LGBT tag, that was actually about gay people and lesbians and sexual attraction and gay families etc. Without thinking I checked the date it was written, as it felt so retro to read it!

wiccamum · 25/09/2018 08:56

Fan of Modibodi here, also love their marketing style. However, take a look at WUKA. They are a British brand and I have found their pants perform slightly better than Modi...and have an equally female focused ad campaign Smile

Doobigetta · 25/09/2018 11:00

I love the warrior poem!

Noticed at my GP surgery the other day that the smear test advert referred to “anyone who has a cervix” part way through, but finished on “all women”. I can live with that- as moofolk said, there’s nothing wrong with varying language to avoid monotony.
