Finally on trans rights and self-identification for trans people, can you explain what was decided at your party conference?

I’m inspired by and proud of our members that came together to hold a public discussion on this. It’s an extremely difficult conversation, made harder to have by people seeking to shut down and silence opinions. We’re going to have a consultation of all our members to find a way forward and I’m working really hard to find options that don’t insist people have to come down on one side or the other. This is about the intersection of two groups’ need for space and protection and we have to venture right into that intersection no matter how uncomfortable it gets.

They came around and canvassed my house at the last election. DH just took a leaflet and sent her away. I was a bit upset because I would have liked to speak to her about self ID as what they hear on the doorstep is a big influencer.

Come on Sophie, woman up a bit more and say what you're thinking. It'll feel like a weight has been lifted.

I read that exchange ShotsFired. It was hilarious to see the desperation to prove we were all horrible transphobes that wouldn’t give trans people any rights, but to keep getting there criticisms contradicted by Sophie. 😆

I wonder if, in the light of the sympathetic Gilligan piece in Sunday Times - it's time for Sophie Walker to shift her backside a little more on that fence. Maybe address the issue of respectful debate and who it is who is issuing threats, going after people's livelihoods, and threatening violence.

I wonder how many of our rights the leader of the Womens’ Equality Party thinks it’s acceptable for women to lose in order to reach a satisfactory compromise? I would like someone to ask her that.
