What validity and importance does it hold in the process of considering Self-Id and whether to make it a law?

Or is it NOT significant?

They won't be especially bothered by the consultation, unless they get enough people pointing out they're risking a safeguarding/abuse scandal of mammoth proportions and the govt's name will be on it.

I don't think it will have any effect on whether the government tries to push through a change in the law, but they do have to publish the results - how many people responded, and how many people are in favour of the changes.

I think it's worth responding - there will be lots of TRAs responding saying yes to self ID, so we need to show that there are plenty of people who are opposed to it - and why.

I think they figured it was just going to be a formality. An under-the-radar box-ticking exercise designed for trans activists, because who cares about impact assessments, competing rights, freedom of speech and women?

Except women are now drawing attention to the problems with self-ID and trans ideology. The brave real-life actions of our outspoken feminist heroes are having an effect.

The government may well still push ahead. But I agree with Dr Nic, and FPFW. I think we have to make sure our objections are heard - to exercise our rights in a democracy, affect the public record and get gender-critical views communicated to the people in power. Every voice counts, so if you can fill out the consultation, please consider doing so.

It's very important as part of the process for developing new policy - and probably new law - regarding the GRC process. Even if the Government decide to make no changes (or tinker around the edges with procedural stuff), it will be a deliberate decision to do so rather than the current situation which has arisen almost through omission (of thought, impact assessment, and consideration of objective).

I think the wording of Consultation is a nonsense, in that it starts from the premise that they want to make obtaining the GRC easier.

That said, they may be surprised by the weight of feeling from women and the well-argued responses. I have been very clear that the govt risks a safeguarding scandal and the loss of women's votes.

Judging from what I've seen, they are likely to get more sense out of GRC women than the thicko mens-rights activists who ply their trade on Twitter, so there's hope there

I hope they will kick it into the long grass.

The issues coming out over the last weeks topped off this weekend with the Bunce farce and GGUK expelling volunteers raising concerns means I will be completing it this weekend. I found it really difficult but Fair Play to Women guidance is helping. Please complete the consultation document.
