If a teenage boy had been involved in a fatal accident, would the case be reported in the same way?

They've trawled through this girl's online presence to find selfies of her so that people can huff and puff about her make-up and selfies.
Young drivers can be silly and inexperienced and it's dreadful that someone was killed, but how she looks has nothing to do with it.

Agreed. The comments about powerful cars are irrelevant - she was on the wrong side of the road doing whatever speed she was doing so whether it took her twenty seconds to 60 or eight seconds to 60 is neither here nor there. On the wrong side of the road she's effectively a brick wall. If she had been on her phone the police would have known, they can work it out.
One bloke's comment was telling - he wanted the police to catch all drivers using a phone and not focus on speed traps on straight, dry roads. Presumably that's his traffic offence of choice. Or maybe two lagers before driving home (which would put him over the limit although I bet he never thinks to check).
Driving offences bring out the worst in commenters, everyone is an excellent driver when they're commenting on YouTube or Facebook but I don't see that many excellent drivers on the roads.
Tragic story, but it reminds me to be grateful for three things here: we have compulsory insurance, we have compulsory roadworthiness tests annually, and we have a very low road death rate compared to most other countries.
