The key thing to understand about trans rights activism is that, unlike gay rights activism, it is not just a movement seeking to ensure that trans people are not discriminated against. It is, rather, a movement committed to a fundamental reconceptualization of the very idea of what makes someone a man or a woman.

Yup.

TerfsUp · 16/09/2018 08:05

Brilliant quote. Also, has been noted elsewhere, gay rights do not mean a sector of the population giving up their rights and safeguards.

Starkstaring · 16/09/2018 08:07

Nor do gay rights promote surgical alterations and permanent sterilisation as a "life-saving" treatments

This is such a brilliant piece that I’m having to reread it in small chunks. It has had me in tears more than once.

Good on Jane Clare Jones and thank op for sharing.

Ive given up on it all, and cant be bothered being nice

Gay rights movements are people asking to be accepted as they are, same sex attracted, and that their loves/attractions and relationships be accepted legally and by society as just as valid and important as hetrosexual relationships and attractions
whereas transgenderism seems to be a disparate group of people essentially asking to be accepted as what they are fundamentally not (otherwise they would not need to identify as or transition to their ideal image of themselves), and in doing so they are demanding that language and social rules are rewritten to enforce people to validate their internal and subjective concept of themselves
I honestly dont understand what the LGB and T have in common at all

Prawnofthepatriarchy · 16/09/2018 23:09

The T is in direct opposition to the LGB. The T says genitals are irrelevant. It's gender identity that is fundamental.

If you believe that, then homosexuality doesn't exist. Because if lesbians are attracted to women they have to be attracted to women who have male bodies as much they are to women with female ones. They can't specify which they exclude from their pool of potential partners.

It really is as simple as that. Trans ideology is homophobia on steroids.

Bouncing this for the morning. I think it is a fantastic piece.

ILuvBirdsEye · 17/09/2018 07:42

This is good. I was sitting here nodding along.

Well put.

And I agree with the comment: The T is in direct opposition to the LGB. The T says genitals are irrelevant. It's gender identity that is fundamental....Trans ideology is homophobia on steroids.
