From Twitter:
*
Although we obviously never intended our stickers to be used in schools, we understand people's concerns that they could be used to create conflict between students. This is the last thing we want, so we have withdrawn the stickers from our site. We are sorry, we made a mistake.*

OP posts:
Carrrotsandcauliflower · 12/09/2018 22:52

This is the mistake.

Zhora · 12/09/2018 22:57

'The last thing we want'. Hmmm.

Stickerladiesoftheworldunite · 12/09/2018 23:02

"Mistake"

Zhora · 13/09/2018 00:04

Seem to be a few people on Twitter now retweeting evidence of TT supporting other people's calls to use stickers in schools. Would rather undermine their above claim.

OnlyObjectivity · 13/09/2018 00:07

Well I for one have no issue with those stickers being used in schools.

OP posts:
RedHoodGirl · 13/09/2018 00:27

It rather suggests that they’ve been caught out on this occasion?

thatsmycustard · 13/09/2018 08:05

Caught out doing what, offering an alternative to the current line in schools written by the likes of GIRES and Mermaids?

tiredandweary · 13/09/2018 08:12

How refreshing to see an organisation maturely acknowledging an error of judgement. Well done Transgendertrend.
I eagerly await a similar apology from those groups advocating dangerous actions like placing born male paedophiles / sex offenders in women's prisons, removing sex segregated changing rooms / toilets and undermining the safeguarding of children in schools

PutYourShirtOnMartin · 13/09/2018 08:41

Tiredandweary my sentiments exactly. A mistake made and a full apology given.

Unlike the half hearted 'if it wasn't for you pesky kids' type stuff we get from the TRAs

Stickers Vs paedophile rapist --- hmmm no fucking contest

speakingwoman · 13/09/2018 08:53

There's the PosieParker method and there's the Justine-from-mumsnet method for surviving in this climate. TT are just taking the Justine route rather than the Posie route.

nauticant · 13/09/2018 09:02

I think it's a well-judged move. The statement is direct and because it makes a clear apology can be short. It was also issued promptly.

Naturally this business is likely to be brought up again and again and Transgender Trend will be able to respond in clear terms simply by saying "look, here's our apology issued at the time".

HotRocker · 13/09/2018 09:04

What did the stickers say? Can’t see images or screenshots.

nauticant · 13/09/2018 09:09

Some appear to be shown in this article:

BitterAndOnlySlightlyTwisted · 13/09/2018 09:44

I can't see anything wrong or untruthful about those stickers. I'm dismayed that TT felt compelled to withdraw them.

If they have any left I'd be happy to buy them

Elephantinacravat · 13/09/2018 09:51

This. I think a few other groups could take a leaf out of their book.

As an aside, there was nothing wrong with those stickers and i would much rather my children saw those in school than there 'are you Barbie or GI Jane?' BULLSHIT that Mermaids are pedalling.

HotRocker · 13/09/2018 10:35

Thanks Nauticant
On balance I think they’ve probably done the right thing. Some kids do like to victimise, and I expect this would be a handy vehicle for them. Also in my experience ckids think and do the exact opposite to what adults tell them. You’ll grow out of it becomes no I won’t, I’ll do it more. Also it sounds dismissive. Kids who have problems need to know that they can seek help, not just oh well you’ll grow out of it.
Maybe keep the campaigning with policymakers and the parents. These kids are suffering because of the policies and ideology of adults, it’s not their problem to solve. When the people who educate and guide them start getting it right, the problem will resolve itself. In the meantime I think the best thing we can do is to teach kids about keeping themselves safe on the Internet, that they can present however they want and be interested in whatever they want, teach them about boundaries and that their bodies are just fine the way they are.
Transgender trend are great though. I admire what they are doing and the spirit with which they are doing it. It must be hard when they’re being targeted so constantly, and with such wicked, vicious slurs. Last night I saw someone sharing that diabolical petition on my FB newsfeed. I was going to unfriend the person who posted it, but on balance I’d rather see what they are sharing.
The mere fact that transgender trend have publicly admitted that they feel they’ve made an error sets them 1,000,000 miles apart from the people trying so desperately to shut them down.

nauticant · 13/09/2018 10:47

Some kids do like to victimise, and I expect this would be a handy vehicle for them.

This is exactly my thought. Even if the content of the stickers is right, in the hands of kids they could be used to bully a child, whether supposedly trans or not. Since TT can't control this, especially it happening in a school, they've gone down the "abundance of caution" route. I don't blame them.

BiologyIsReal · 13/09/2018 10:58

Yes, well Transgender Trend is an organisation run by adults who accept that if they have made a misjudgement admit it, apologise and rectify.

Unlike of course TRAs who, for example, are harassing companies such as Birds Eye (see other thread) who are going about their legitimate business. Then of course there are organisations such as Stonewall who would never think of apologising for the damaging fantasies they are spouting to all and sundry.

BernardBlacksWineIcelolly · 13/09/2018 11:09

TTs primary concern, in fact their whole reason for being, is the safety of children. I'm not surprised that if they felt there was any chance of their actions causing harm they immediately stopped what they were doing.

well done to them for prioritising the safety of children over reputation management. quite refreshing to see.

arranfan · 13/09/2018 11:14

"abundance of caution" route. I don't blame them.

I wish more organisations would react in this way but it seems that admitting to an error of judgment affects the way people view your integrity. It will be interesting to see how this plays out - there are comments are the Twitter feed that are scenting an opportunity to demand their whole Schools Pack is withdrawn. And, sadly, it will now be plausible to highlight this error of judgment if activists want to oppose their packs in schools.

nauticant · 13/09/2018 12:02

Another good thing about their clear and prompt apology is that if you read it you'll see that they've not apologised for the content of the stickers, only the possibility of them being (mis-)used in schools. If they'd quibbled, the discussion would have expanded to include the content.

As things now stand, the issue looks to be resolved and although it can be reopened by TRAs, they'll look like they're spoiling for a fight (when a clear apology is already out there).
