Equality impact assessments- sex or gender

Can anyone advise - I stumbled upon one at my nhs workplace and it assesses against ‘Gender (including transgender)’ even though in their guidance they list sex as a protected characteristic. So I had a look at some other templates from statuary organisations and they all seem to do this.

I’m sure this has been a thread before but I can’t find anything. Does anyone have advice for me before I ask my employer about this?

There is sex, and there is gender reassignment. Gender is not a protected characteristic.

I have challenged this and got nowhere but others have been more successful.

I wrote to my council about this using the template on this site. Tumbleweef from the council.

I misgendered tumbleweeD there, not weef.

Even harder if your employer isn't public sector. I was told 'gender' is drumroll more inclusive. Told by a smug bloke with a beard.

Oh yuk Charlie, what a prick. More inclusive to whom?

Stickerladiesoftheworldunite · 12/09/2018 00:23

Answer: men

Equality Impact Assessments haven't been legally required even in the public sector since 2011. They were quietly dropped from the Equality Act, another way in which our rights were undermined by the Tories.

Places that still do them use them as evidence of due diligence, should they be taken to court. But they don't have to do them.
