NHS appointment with primary aged DD. At end, was asked to fill in questionnaire on a tablet about experience of appointment, we were told either DD or I could do it and as I was occupied with DD2 (toddler) and as DD1 wanted to do it, she went ahead. Most questions were about how friendly the practitioner was etc but one question near the end was as follows:
"Do you identify with...." then two pictures similar to those you see on bathrooms. DD was confused and said "Does it mean am I a girl or a boy?" To which the practitioner said "...er, yes, basically " to which DD shrugged and said "well then I guess..." and clicked on the silhouetted skirt wearer.
I am pissed off beyond belief at myself that I didn't challenge this at the time, and just say that her sex is female, she doesn't even understand the word 'identify' and certainly not in this context, but I didn't. I should get a letter about the appointment in due course at which point I'll complain direct to the practitioner. Really upset about this though as I can't really see what they're alluding to there other than regressive sex stereotypes (girls wear skirts), plus it was very confusing for DD.
