Best women's charities?

Hello fellow feminists,

I want to set up a regular smallish donation to a charity which supports vulnerable women, but there are just so many out there and I don't know which to pick! I'd be really interested to hear posters' views and recommendations.

My criteria are follows:

  • probably UK based
  • relatively small (as my contribution will go further)
  • focused on support
  • some form of evaluation that demonstrates the impact of the charity's work.

Many thanks!!

I'm about to stop my D/D to the NSPCC after the recent fiasco so would be really interested in any answers to Irene's op too...

When you say "UK based" do you mean helping women in the UK, or a UK-registered charity?

TrumpsToddlerTantrums · 09/09/2018 18:55

I'm sure there"s been a thread about this before.

My Green Party membership now goes to Woman's Place, UK, and Fairplay For Women.

The Women’s Holiday Centre

Not sure how it fulfils your last criterion though.

The Centre for Women's Justice.

Thanks everyone! Yes, a charity that helps women in the UK.

The Centre for Women's Justice looks v interesting - I will read up about it now.

I have a small monthly dd to Womankind Worldwide www.womankind.org.uk/
They are uk based but work all over the world (as, er, you probably worked out...)

Partner and I support two women and children's NGOs in Kolkata . New Light and South Kolkata Hamari Muskan. Both work with prostituted and trafficked women, providing shelters for their children, getting them into education and training, setting up small businesses to get them out of the trade. A little donation goes a long way in India. Though the feminist groups and campaigns here get some too.

Angryresister · 10/09/2018 08:46

Sorry didn't see that you were looking for UK based.

What about S.H.E. UK in Nottinghamshire:

she-uk.org.uk/

Supporting female victims of child sex abuse and very much woman-centred.
