MNHQ threadpulling- the Manchester Pride thread

I am very disappointed to see this message when looking for the Manchester Pride thread:
‘thread deleted
Message from MNHQ: We think the wording in the OP post is a bit much - so we're going to take the thread down now.’

That was a key thread with constructive resources about an incident at Manchester Pride which could have been a homophobic (against lesbians) hate crime and was arguably inciting violence and wishing to stop free speech and peaceful legal demonstration at London Pride.
The incident was - from memory as described on the deleted thread- a compere on stage at Manchester Pride saying that the Get the L Out demonstrators at London Pride ‘should have been dragged off by their saggy old tits’.

Something nonsexist and inclusive like that, you know, really in the true spirit of Pride and everything.

Constructive resources had been linked to on the thread about investigating and dealing appropriately with the incident- including one of the Get the L out protestors was posting on there. There were links to ways of joining in the listening exercises run by the organisers (suggested to try to prevent a repeat next year.

Various posters were saying they had felt uncomfortable with the atmosphere at Pride given comments of that kind.

The thread itself was really constructive and responded to an important issue about inclusivity for women and lesbians. I think it really was in the spirit of MN.

I don’t recollect the wording of the OP but surely that could have been edited rather than delete the whole thread? There wasn’t an issue with the thread as a whole.

I am really disappointed @MNHQ about this imbalance on the use of the ban-hammer.

Could I respectfully ask you please to kindly consider putting this thread back in your ‘pending decision’ category - so with a chance of reinstating the thread while you reconsider the balance- rather than deleting the whole thread because of wording in the OP?

Thank you and sorry for the extra work- we do very much appreciate MN as a place to talk within the guidelines and lurk and we do recognise that modding is very resource-intensive. We do also appreciate that a lot of the time you don’t pull threads that you are strongly being urged to. Flowers

I had the thread cached at time of deletion. OP said that the actions of these men made her want to punch them in their saggy balls or similar, a bit of fantasy violence.

FeminismandWomensFights · 03/09/2018 21:47

Thanks womb.

Then we are really just dancing around on pinheads trying not to offend the woman-haters who are constantly moving the goalposts in that case.

Would the thread have stood if she’d instead said she wanted to drag them off by their saggy balls?

really??

That was it

Which plonker complained about that then

OlennasWimple · 03/09/2018 22:01

Blimey, I missed all this

Did anyone note on the thread that Manchester Pride was where Jess bradley (and others) staged a lie down protest in 2016?

Standbyyourmammaryglands · 03/09/2018 22:08

Yes I did put that. Gah

Must learn to play nice in future. And yes I wonder who did report it.

thebewilderness · 03/09/2018 22:53

Facts are "a bit much" for the MN mods these days? We noticed that.

FeminismandWomensFights · 05/09/2018 00:07

Did anyone who reported hear back from MNHQ about this?
