Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

Thank you, James Kirkup and The Spectator

My DS (34) called in today and we ended up having a discussion about gender politics. We both have a subscription to The Spectator and he's clearly been reading James' columns and was a bit confused.

So (with thanks to the FWR posters too) I was able to explain the concerns and definitely peak transed him - a couple of minutes of the Alex 'Grrrl' Drummond video was the coup de grace

So thank you, James, for engaging those who most likely wouldn't normally give this sort of thing a second thought. The message is getting through

I'm not going if Sarah Vine is going. There does have to be a line somewhere surely?? And I've got all the Gin

Milliepede · 01/09/2018 23:57

James, as you have mentioned MN, I have a feeling that you read FWR and therefore will probably read this thread. I'd like to thankyou so much and please keep on going.

TimeLady · 02/09/2018 03:45

I only found the FWR board on Mumsnet because of one of James' articles, so it works in reverse too.

I'd like to add my thanks too, James Kirkup. There are very few journalists who haven't uncritically swallowed the trans party line, entirely missing the harm done to women's interests or the ethical nightmare that is child transition.

I'm seriously skint at present, but if/when I'm not I'll subscribe to The Spectator so I have access to your entire oeuvre.

I agree. @TheRoadtoTerfdom is a path many of us walk and we are grateful for those posters who help us spread the facts using any platform or publication they may or may not have at their disposal.

Huge thanks to anyone who may or may not be in such a position...

GetOffMyTERF · 02/09/2018 08:34

Another FWRer here who has a Spectator subscription because of JK. Thank you James ❤️

TerfsUp · 02/09/2018 08:56

Sorry, Owen, you're not invited

The party wouldn't start until after Wee Owen's bedtime, so it's not an issue.

Anyone who is clear-thinking is welcome.

Enjoli · 02/09/2018 09:47

Thank you, James & The Spectator.

I've just subscribed.

Sparctopus · 02/09/2018 09:55

I'm a new subscriber too Grin and Flowers

ArcheryAnnie · 04/09/2018 09:03

A couple of weeks ago I finally took out a subscription to the Spectator. Some of the writers I can't abide (Liddle, Young) but I always think it's a good idea to read outside your own little bubble.

Anyway, when I was on the phone to the subs dept, I specifically cited James Kirkup as the reason I was finally subscribing, because I want to access writing like that, and I want to support it.

2BorNot2Bvocal · 04/09/2018 10:19

Just signed up to the free trial and likely to subscribe properly. Time to read more than 140 character soundbites on a range of issues. Grin

Another new subscriber here, thanks to James. Though I’m also quite interested in Lionel Shriver’s articles on millennials and censorship.

BossWitch · 04/09/2018 10:28

I've thanked James on twitter today, but I'm adding another one here. Also putting Graham Linehan on the party invite list!

DorothyGarrod · 04/09/2018 10:31

James is amazing! Not just for speaking out but articulating it so bloody well. It’s nice reading something so well constructed. Thank you!

Labradoodliedoodoo · 04/09/2018 10:33

.

NowtSalamander · 04/09/2018 10:35

I have subscribed to the Spectator for several months now, solely because of James. Should he be reading this, I’d like him to know that.

When I get a pause, I mean to write to his editor to make that clear, but in the meantime maybe someone could just show him this thread...

NameChangedAgain18 · 04/09/2018 10:46

The comments on Spectaor articles are an absolute horror show, though. I don’t like the fact that they allow personal abuse of other posters to stand, and that a lot of the comments are merely aggressive and confrontational rather than properly engaged and reflective. Personally, I wouldn’t get involved in discussing with people like that, whereas I do in the Times, Telegraph and Guardian.

boatyardblues · 04/09/2018 17:47

The influx of MN subscribers could well raise the quality of the Spectator’s BTL commentary. Especially the FWR vipers who are far too outspoken to “lady” properly.

PenguindreamsofDraco · 04/09/2018 18:45

Another one who's just subscribed Smile

Theswaggyotter · 04/09/2018 19:30

Another one planning to subscribe purely because of James Kirkup’s recent articles.
Thank you for keeping on lifting the lid on this James!

ArcheryAnnie · 06/09/2018 10:53

NameChanged I haven't (yet) looked at the Spectator's comments, but I do think the Guardian's comments have exactly the opposite problem - too many people are deleted or overly-moderated, so it's back to a little echo-chamber.

NameChangedAgain18 · 06/09/2018 12:19

Oh, I completely agree, ArcheryAnnie - their heavy-handed moderation of any view that departs from the orthodoxy is disgraceful. You can make a perfectly logical point, in civilised language, and still be deleted, because, wrongthink.
