This was announced when the consultation was opened.

When is it happening?

Was there ever going to a chat or was Justine just going to meet with her privately?

NameChangedAgain18 · 31/08/2018 11:53

I think it was just going to be a meeting between her and Justine.

R0wantrees · 31/08/2018 15:31

I think from memory, Justine was due to be seeing Penny Mordant about another matter. There was then additionally a suggestion of a future webchat.

MN posters have collated questions and concerns on two threads:

this is the thread where Justine Roberts comments:

Additionally serious Safeguarding concerns are collated & discussed here:

"Hi all,

I’ve had lots of contact about about yesterday’s thread which has now maxed out so thought I’d put a response here.

First of all our guidelines absolutely do allow people to discuss biology and science. And we absolutely see why some of Penny Mordaunt’s words yesterday would raise concerns amongst those with a gender critical POV - so maybe it wasn’t, in retrospect, the best moment to make a point. Nonetheless we do believe that as a rule Spartacus-type threads are not conducive to a constructive debate and that trans people would be likely to feel attacked and/or excluded by them.

To state the obvious and as I’ve said before, this is an extremely polarised debate in which even the most basic terms are disputed, so if we’re going to have it here we’re in danger of being attacked from all sides (which we are in actual fact). Nonetheless, we think it’s important, so we’ll keep at it and we’ll keep trying to moderate it to make it as open and civil as we possibly can.

You should also know that I’m due to meet soon with Penny Mordaunt to discuss “any ideas you may have on the women and equalities agenda’' and I will of course reflect the strong opinion of many Mumsnetters wrt to this issue and ask her to do a webchat too.

Thanks, as ever, for your input."

If Penny Mordant does a webchat with Mumsnet on matters pertaining to the GRA consultation, I'll eat a pair of Sturdy Pyjamas.

Wanderabout · 31/08/2018 15:41

If Penny Mordaunt won't do even a web chat with mumsnetters regarding safeguarding and other concerns about a piece of legislation she is championing as minister for women it is going to look like she hasn't got any answers to our questions either.

I have wondered if the safeguarding concerns regarding child protection would be better put to Nadhim Zahawi MP who is Minister for Children.

cf Yesterday's NSPCC threads:

Good idea Rowan

General point about Penny Mordaunt still stands.

How can the minister for women say no to a chat with mumsnetters to explain why in fact they should not be concerned about law changes she is trying to champion?

It would make no sense.

I think its a serious mistake to see child protection concerns purely from an equalities perspective. It limits the focus to be about transgender rights. Also, in terms of expertise the Children's department will have expertise there just as issues about schools should be with Dept of Education, same sex wards with Health etc etc

Wanderabout · 31/08/2018 20:31

I think its a serious mistake to see child protection concerns purely from an equalities perspective.

I agree. I don't think anyone is suggesting we should do that.

Good suggestion to address concerns more widely, politically.

No one wants to talk to us, do they?

It's surprising really, considering how obviously wrong we are about everything. You'd think that one simple explanatory webchat could put all our minds at rest and solve the entire problem.

Or not, maybe [sigh]

smigglepiggle · 31/08/2018 21:03

I could always blindside her with a question in Tesco if anybody wants? Grin She's my local MP and surprisingly active considering her ministerial schedule. She even door knocked here a couple of months ago.

smigglepiggle · 31/08/2018 21:04

By blindside I mean ask her a question in the yogurts section ahem.

Gentlygently · 31/08/2018 21:35

Smiggle have you thought about asking her for a meeting at her constituency surgery?
