Slightly confusing this:

Verity looks like a man, has a beard like a man, identifies as man, but is biologically female. Oh, and is taking steroids (testosterone).

But still gets to play on a women's team.

Anyone able to explain?

Well of course not, they've got a team-mate who can legally dope and gives them an advantage in matches.

If you are playing on a women's rugby team with a full beard, you're not going to keep it secret that you're trans!

Quite, it's such an incoherent ideology, a mass of contradictions. The other team players are simultaneously expected to pretend that they're not aware the person is trans, because noting the fact that a person without breasts and a full beard playing on a women's team might indicate that they're trans, is a transphobic act. However, if they called this person by female pronouns no doubt that would also be transphobic because their gender identity which 'contradicts' their natal sex is not being respected. Utterly bonkers. Completely screwed up.
