Green Party Gender Recognition Act survey

poopsqueak · 28/08/2018 16:07

I am not sure if this has been posted before, but since the AC debacle, I have been researching the Green Party's position on a number of things so that I can make up my mind on wether to vote for them.

I came across their survey on the Gender Recognition act (posted by AC on her Twitter feed)

twitter.com/LGBTIQAGreens/status/1031505576940003329

And I thought I'd fill it out, giving fair and reasonable answers. Well, turns out they dont want fair or reasonable answers. They have actually pre-filled out answers and pre-selected answers in the favour of the answers they want you to give so-to-say, so that you are encouraged to answer in the way they want.

AIBU to think this is outrageous (although not unsurprising)? It's not in the least bit unbiased and puts words in the mouths of people filling out the survey.

I don't think this is that unusual. Interest groups often provide template answers for their members to submit in response to consultations.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 28/08/2018 17:32

I've never seen it done to the degree where they actually fill out the answers for you though.

EverardDigby · 28/08/2018 17:39

I'm just looking at it. I assumed that it was a survey of GP members to form the GP response, but am I right that this is the actual consultation submission? If so how are they doing that technologically? Or are they proposing to submit for people? I feel like I'm being thick!

poopsqueak · 28/08/2018 17:48

Well I think they can define their own questions obviously as I have read a few of these consultation surveys and they have all been different.

But to fill in answers for people seems... like something the government wouldn't allow.

OP posts:
poopsqueak · 28/08/2018 17:52

Does anyone know where the answers are submitted to?

OP posts:
WichBitchHarpyTerfThatsMe · 28/08/2018 17:52

Cheeky fuckers!

Have just completed and submitted it, it took longer to delete all of the pre-written answers than to actually write my own!

Thanks for putting this up OP, I wouldn't have known about it or participated otherwise!

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 28/08/2018 17:53

If so how are they doing that technologically? Or are they proposing to submit for people?

The latter I think: The deadline to respond to the consultation is the 19th October 2018 at 11pm. LGBTIQA+ Greens cannot guarantee that any response made using this form after the 12th of October 2018 will be processed in time

Reminds me of these helpful people who fill out and return postal votes for people.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 28/08/2018 17:55

Fuck me!

LGBTIQA+ Greens are committed to the protection and privacy of your personal data. LGBTIQ+ Greens will use the information your provide to complete the consultation and submit a response using the details you give. After processing your response it will be deleted. It will only ever be accessed by members of the LGBTIQA+ Greens committee

Nope. Nothing potentially problematic there at all...

ErrolTheDragon · 28/08/2018 17:55

It says on that twitter
'We've just launched our model response to the Gender Recognition Act consultation - find it here, where we've made it as easy as possible for you to submit a response. '

Do they think their members don't have minds of their own?Hmm

MangoSplit · 28/08/2018 17:55

Survey completed (with pre-filled fields deleted).

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 28/08/2018 18:01

The template answers have been drafted by a trans person, and have been looked over by other trans people, both binary and non-binary

For an LGBT++ society, I find it interesting that they have not even considered the possibility that the Ls or Gs may have liked to have been asked for their input ...

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 28/08/2018 18:02

It's not a survey. It will become an official GRA consultation response. If I was being cynical I'd imagine that "anti-tank" responses will be helpfully filtered out so the government never sees them.

ErrolTheDragon · 28/08/2018 18:09

Probably better to go straight to the official government website. I've not done it yet myself because it looks like there's a lot of background reading but must get on with it soon.

poopsqueak · 28/08/2018 18:20

Thanks for the link to the official .gov.uk page. I will email them tomorrow including Penny Mordaunt. I think I'm going to email Caroline Lucas too.

Consultation outcomes could be challenged on basis of this?

LangCleg · 28/08/2018 18:28

This is completely insane. I honestly cannot believe what I am reading.

NotZenEnough · 28/08/2018 18:33

I was going to fill in a response but it struck me that I don't really want to give my phone number and address to GP as given the recent developments, especially since my responses would be likely to have me labelled as terf.....

Doobigetta · 28/08/2018 18:35

That’s shocking". Tbh though I thought the consultation itself was appalling badly written, to the point where I think it tries to confuse people. I studied Law at undergraduate level, I was trained to understand opaquely worded legislation, and I found it difficult to understand and had to read each question more than once. Especially the bits where they showed part of the amendment and then asked whether trans people’s rights would be affected- but didn’t say whether they meant by the 2010 act, the 2018 act or the proposed amendment to the 2018 act.

poopsqueak · 29/08/2018 21:29

Did anyone manage to send an email/contact the greens today? I did send an email but just got the stock reply.

Probably better to go straight to the official government website. I've not done it yet myself because it looks like there's a lot of background reading but must get on with it soon.

There's a helpful guide at www.fairplayforwomen.com - WITHOUT pre-completed answers!

Voice0fReason · 29/08/2018 22:58

They obviously have a very low opinion of their supporters and don't think they are capable of thinking out the answers for themselves.
Group think!

PencilsInSpace · 29/08/2018 23:05

This is not a survey this is actual responses to the government consultation on changing the gender recognition act to self ID.

I can't imagine the government taking their responses seriously if they get a load of identical ones, it'll be like when people send template emails to their MP.

The government's consultation on self-ID closes on 19th October

Consultation is here.

Excellent guidance from Fair Play For Women here

Make up your own mind and write your own response. It doesn't have to be perfect and you don't have to have all the answers. Just say what you're worried about and what the problems are as you see them.

PencilsInSpace · 29/08/2018 23:09

Don't bother complaining to the greens about this. There's no time and they'll probably feed you a load of bullshit anyway.

It would be more effective to complain/raise the alarm directly with the govt people running the consultation:

Please email any enquiries to: [email protected]

RandomChitchat · 29/08/2018 23:18

So if you complete the survey accessed through the GP's page, they then put forward your answers to the consultation? Not sure I trust them to do that with any responses that don't toe the party line.

PencilsInSpace · 29/08/2018 23:45

The template answers have been drafted by a trans person, and have been looked over by other trans people, both binary and non-binary.

I wonder which trans person it was Hmm

Greens cannot guarantee that any response made using this form after the 12th of October 2018 will be processed in time, and so recommends that those wishing to complete the consultation after the 12th October do so on the Government website

What does 'processed' mean? What are the green party doing with the responses that takes 7 days?
