www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-coventry-warwickshire-45328860

I wonder if their feet are sore from dragging their heels for so bloody long..

They’ve avoided using the term “rape” which is my eyes diminishes the seriousness of the horrendous crimes committed

sociopathsunited · 28/08/2018 13:20

Ah...now I know why they had to publish this.

Can you imagine if they continued to ignore David Challoner with this being today's local headline?

www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-coventry-warwickshire-45329451

It appears that being a child in Coventry is not a good thing to be...

The angle is very much innocent person affected by their father's regrettable actions eh?

Rather than the rape and torture of a 10 year old girl?

Fuck off BBC.

sociopathsunited · 28/08/2018 13:21

bzz oh yes, mealy mouthed and insipid.... Say as little as they can get away with and hope the world doesn't notice.

This from the article is not true:

In a statement Ms Challenor, a transgender activist, apologised and said she did not know about his crimes.

And in fact is contradicted in the article itself later:

"Ms Challenor, 20, who is a member of the Green Party in Coventry, said she was disgusted with her father's behaviour, and did not know the full details of his crimes until recently."

WTAF BBC?

Seriously, you are making it look like there is something deliberately dodgy going on.

Is there?

bzzbeebzz · 28/08/2018 13:22

WTF is wrong with these people?

HotRocker · 28/08/2018 13:23

So how come the article about Nathan Potts uses the words child rapist, but the article about David Challinor doesn’t?

heresyandwitchcraft · 28/08/2018 13:23

This is really dodgy.

IncrediblySturdyPyjamas · 28/08/2018 13:24

And yet still not reported the actual crime yet?

sociopathsunited · 28/08/2018 13:24

Which people Bzz? The Challoners or the BBC? Cos both seem to have a lot to answer for, in my eyes....

That other article being run as headline news leaves no excuse at all for failing to cover the other trial. Is the local BBC journo/Editor a friend of the family or something?!?

Juells · 28/08/2018 13:26

You have to wonder what kind of childhood the jailed Potts brothers had - not an excuse at all, but it looks as if terrible child sex abuse has been going on in that family generation after generation, each generation victimising the following one :( Hopefully this will end the cycle.

sociopathsunited · 28/08/2018 13:27

It's odd isn't it, that a local newspaper is a lot more explicit and honest about what happened than the BBC? I mean, they still quote the old "rising star" crap, but they do actually say (without going into details) what David Challoner did to that poor girl.

coventryobserver.co.uk/news/green-party-rising-star-quits-deputy-leadership-race-after-coventry-father-jailed-for-horrific-crimes-on-girl-10/

Now why isn't the BBC saying the same?

OP posts:
GreenGloves · 28/08/2018 13:30

Jesus Christ.

Househelp123 · 28/08/2018 13:37

I have complained to the BBC about the bias in the article. You do not need to leave your name to do this, although if you do they will reply to you.

LatinForTelly · 28/08/2018 13:38

Fuck it, I've just complained to the BBC about half an hour ago. Now they can palm me off and say that they have covered it.

They're pathetic.

Wanderabout · 28/08/2018 13:40

It's not even just bias there is factual inaccuracy. Plus totally different standards of reporting compared to a very similar case. It's astoundingly bad and all in favour of the Challenors.

Charliethefeminist · 28/08/2018 13:47

Rape and torture, BBC, rape and torture.

Charliethefeminist · 28/08/2018 13:48

Complain again. Progress if you get fobbed off. It's what all the TRA do. Shrug.

Charliethefeminist · 28/08/2018 13:49

I'm sending in my own. It's serious bias.

heresyandwitchcraft · 28/08/2018 13:50

Added to the "BBC Bias" thread. That one is getting long.

gendercritter · 28/08/2018 13:58

This is just bizarre. Sexual abuse is a very awful thing but in this context somehow doesn't actually imply how extremely serious the crimes were.

sociopathsunited · 28/08/2018 14:14

I've complained on the grounds of bias, factual inaccuracies and omissions. Yes, I'm expecting to get absolutely nowhere, but fuck, I needed to get it off my chest.

Chickens. They're all fucking chickens, the lot of them.

VickyEadie · 28/08/2018 14:16

That Potts family of rapists are a grim-looking lot.

YeTalkShiteHen · 28/08/2018 14:19

The BBC have form for downplaying, minimising and outright denying child abuse by their own staff, so I’m saddened but not even slightly surprised that they’ve fucked this up too.

I suspect that if there wasn’t a trans element to this case (however indirect) the reporting would have taken a very different route indeed
