Bodyguard - Twitter up in arms about 'unrealistic number of women'

So I went and had a count on IMDB, and sure enough, we'd hit the magic 1/3rd.

By my quick count up of the actors - 42 men, 13 women.

So not even equal, and still people think there are too many women. If we can't even reach equality when casting all the side characters for a fictional TV show, what hope do we have in real life?

These fragile men are easily triggered by the sight of a woman with a - gasp - job , aren't they?

I thought it was great that there were so many women in 'traditionally' male roles. The most unrealistic thing about that episode was that everyone had seats on the train and it was running to schedule Grin

Yes, I think that's what was bothering the Twatterati.

Of course, the women in those roles are a bit...suspect, aren't they? Keeley Hawes' character from the start is unpleasant for no apparent reason to her protection officer (and others). The senior anti-terrorism officer clearly wants to shoot the female terrorist and it's the lovely man who holds out and stops this happening. Hawes' assistant (who spills coffee on her, giggles about it and is then sacked) then tries to blab to the press...

I haven't seen it yet, and now I feel like I'm going to be sad because of what you're saying VikieEadie.

You do notice when there's women - I remember watching black mirror and noticing that in the general background people (police officers, crowds etc.) there was a better ratio of women to men than usual - of course I was pleased, not incensed!

Oh i just mentioned this to dh after reading the headline in the Mail

Even he thinks its pathetic! I say that but actually quite good with feminism stuff

I haven't seen this show but i do agree with vicky quite often the 'powerful woman' character is just a dreadful person!!

Or on a remake they up the female characters...but they are playing the baddy once played by a man

The only one that raises my eyebrows was Karen the explosives woman, and I thought that was good to have a woman in that role. All the others were credible. I don’t mind KH being crabby and rude at work. Who isn’t when they are surrounded by a load of dim-witted blokes all day.

Given that the last two Home Sec's were women, as is the commissioner of the met police and the chair of the police chiefs council, oh and the Prime Minister, it's not that unrealistic!

There is a thread about this programme in telly addicts and a couple of the posters there are complaining about the amount of women, BBC being too try hard on the PC front and the casting being bad.
The mind boggles.
