But what is the government going to do about the legal fiction they have created, in allowing men to legally change sex? How realistically does this situation move forward?

How will they punish the non believers?
By ignoring the abuse of women who say no, which will effectively drive women and girls out of the public sphere and back to the kitchen.
This is not an unintended consequence. It is part of the purpose to supporting the 8th rule of misogyny: Men are whatever men say they are and women are whatever men say they are.

I’m fascinated by the number of men who believe in some inherent quality of “woman” that our brains have and their brains don’t. That’s why they’re so happy to accept gender identity - they’ve always believed our brains are different to theirs and we don’t have the same kind of inner life they do. They used to keep quiet about it, but now they get to call it progressive and tell feminists off for disagreeing. It’s like bloody Christmas come early for them.
