Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

Is there a word for this?

Is there a word for someone who does not wish to change the sex they are, but thinks that the gender that goes with that sex is too limiting? I suppose if that person is female, the word might be feminist, but that doesn't really work with a man, particularly if his feelings are mainly to do with the male sex.

So - trans - wishes to be thought of as the opposite sex/thinks that they are the 'opposite gender'
'Cis' - happy with their sex and the gender that 'goes with it'

What is 'wants to be the sex they are but not be limited by it'. Apart from 'normal'!

Gender Critical.

I think you've nailed it. Just male or female.
You could probably also say someone is gender non-conforming.
E.g. Hannah Gadsby who is female but not limited by the expectations of the feminine gender role.

Not sure how it would fit with trans theory. Their "trans" umbrella is so wide these days that I am sure there would be a micro-gender-identity for everyone.

new man used to be bandied around, didn't it? Back in the 80s. Haven't heard it for a long time now.

"The New Man was someone "who rejects sexist attitudes and the traditional male role, esp. in the context of domestic responsibilities and childcare, and who is (or is held to be) caring, sensitive, and non-aggressive".

New man
Haven't heard this for a while.
Very apt in this context, biologically correct as well.

New men were very irritating. Just as sexist, but with a new field to explain to women. Know it alls about calpol and bedtimes.

Charliethefeminist · 22/08/2018 22:53

Which is worse, a sexist man who knows what he is, or a sexist man who thinks he's a gift to feminism. New men were the second.

If you were female you would be called a 'terf'

What you are about to find out if you ask a gender ideologist this, is that you are not allowed to reject an 'identity' as your primary classifier.
To do so is to fall back upon factual truth. We are all a sex, and whether we accept that or rail against it is immaterial. What we cannot change is our sex.
What we can change is the unfair and unwarranted associations and cultural expectations chained to each sex. That would be gender.

Gender identity is critically dependent upon maintaining the chains between cultural expectations and sex. It cannot exist without anchoring itself to sex.

Sex however, would exist perfectly well without being chained to gender expectations, a fact which is an existential threat to genderists and so you and we find ourselves blocked at every attempt to uncouple the two and release sex from the chains of gender.

Gender, set adrift from sex, is lost.
Sex remains a constant.

Person? Sorry, am tired but in the 80s and 90s we were just people. Or humans.

I honestly really thought I was so lucky to have been born into a western society that nearly was done with this gender shite. Sure there were hiccups but we were on the way. And now, I just want to weep...

ErrolTheDragon · 22/08/2018 23:41

Yeah, person - with a sex, a sexuality and a personality.
