I am a nonbinary trans menstruator

What does this mean? My understanding of non binary means they do not subscribe to gender stereotypes associated with either males or females. Fine. But then how are they a trans person? What are they transitioning to if they don’t recognise gender?

Though I now can name these increasing anxieties as “dysphoria,” a term used to describe the common experience trans people often feel because our bodies do not match our gender,

Ok, but this person identifies as non binary- so how can their body not match their gender if they don’t have one?

On the flip side, using the men’s restroom means that I have to pray that I’m not already leaking when I walk in there and figure out the best ways to keep myself safe while discreetly tending to my period.

I would be interested in knowing why they feel the need to take extra measures to keep themselves safe in the men’s bathrooms. What is the risk they are talking about that doesn’t exist in the women’s bathrooms?

Doesn’t this just make the case for single sex facilities, and demonstrate the reason why we don’t want men in ours?
Yes, dealing with period problems with men around makes you uncomfortable, self ID or unisex won’t help that. Either this person needs to try to educate the mens, suck it up and live with their choices, or grow the fuck up, stop being so self obsessed and use the womens’.
As for buying tampons, I could send DS down the shop to do that for me and know one would bat an eyelid.
I do worry about some of these people if they had an actual problem to deal with.

As with all of this, it leads right back to the fundamental question of 'other than a person with xx chromosomes, what is a woman? And as there is no good answer to this (if we ignore feelz, and please lets) then where does this go? Back to biology. Sex not gender.

Racecardriver · 22/08/2018 08:39

It's pretty simple. The article reads as follows 'I am self centred AF.' (as evidenced by the failure to have noticed that society does acknowledge that women don't have periods, we have a word for it buddy, it's called menopause) 'But I am extra-special and that makes things way harder for me than for ordinary trans people so I need a whole article dedicated to my bodily functions because my period is extra interesting by my decision to identify as a non identifyer.'

hackmum · 22/08/2018 08:39

I must admit I snorted a bit at "a world that refuses to acknowledge that not everyone who gets their period is a woman" but after reading the whole thing I felt a bit sad for them. It must be hard feeling that ill-at-ease with your own body.

Maybe when Cass grows up a bit more they can become a feminist and direct their energies at the world for how it treats women rather than trying a losing fight with reality

Well said Ihuntmonsters

3) If the worst thing about sanitary products is the colour of the wrapping and not the fact that poverty means you can't afford them and have to skip school, you really, really need to reassess your value system.

This excellent observation highlights just how much queer theory, and non-binaryism in particular, is a way for privileged people to be "oppression tourists". It's the gender equivalent of that Pulp song "Common People", where Jarvis is saying that no matter how bad your current conditions are and how little money you have to live on, if you can opt-out easily by phoning your family for money, you are not oppressed.

Newsflash: if all you have to do is change your clothes/haircut/makeup and stop low-dose hormones to revert back to looking like "cis" people, you are not oppressed. To quote Rose Of Dawn, "there's a huge difference between getting a haircut and getting 'down there' cut".

God these people are so tedious 🙄

endofthelinefinally · 22/08/2018 08:55

I find it sad in a world with so many really serious problems, some people have nothing better to do than constant self absorbed attention seeking.
We only get one life. Why not do something useful?

PerverseConverse · 22/08/2018 08:58

I've just re-read the article and now have a headache. It's so contradictory. I don't understand at all. Non-binary but trans, non-binary but has chosen to adopt a stereotypically male appearance. Am I missing something?

Ekphrasis · 22/08/2018 08:59

I think it just means you've dyed your hair blue and wear gender neutral clothes.

I find it interesting that someone who rejects their sex, acts to conceal it, officially and publically (and vocally!) identifies as “not that sex” will devote their creative and campaigning talents to actively ensure their days are spent talking and writing about one of the most obvious consequences of being that sex. They even go as far as to name themselves after it. It has reminded me of when I split from my ex. I would constantly talk about how much of a dick he was, what he’d done this time, how much I hated him. I got some counselling and the man barely enters my head now. I’m certainly not interested in naming myself “Billy’s ex” Wink

Exactly, OP. Being a transgender expert is now regarded as some sort of career plan, it seems.

IfIwasABird: I follow someone on FB who's an ex-Mormon. He spends his entire time posting about being an ex-Mormon, offering advice to other ex-Mormons, attacking the Mormon church etc. He once wrote, without irony, that he didn't see himself as an atheist because he couldn't see the point in defining himself by what he didn't believe in.

IfIWasABirdIdFlyIn2ACeilingFan · 22/08/2018 10:19

he couldn't see the point in defining himself by what he didn't believe in.

😂😂😂 spot on! That’s exactly it.

The most interesting thing about Cass is that they don't have blue hair. Someone who is truly resisting stereotypes.
