Is it true that in the UK in 2018 - no political party believes that women are full human beings with as much right to autonomy and self-direction as any man?

WombOfOnesOwn

This issue has really cemented the fact that no political party believes that women are full human beings with as much right to autonomy and self-direction as any man.

Copied from the AIBU thread.

I seems to me the BBC also view us as above and I think we should start a campaign about this issue above.

How can we persuade the BBC to balance the bias against females so far?

They have given a propoghanda Question time to Paris Less, and I would like to see the same now given to us just as they did Paris. To have Julia Long, Julia Hartley Brewer, Nick Robinson on the panel to name a few.

Well yes Pam, and invited people like Jess Bradley to parliament so that he could tell them what to write.

Carrrotsandcauliflower · 21/08/2018 15:10

You know what I would vote for them. I’d have to go home and scrub my hands. And then once I knew people knew I am an actual woman again worry myself silly about the entire rest of everything they might do.

ZuttZeVootEeVro · 21/08/2018 15:16

The Conservatives may not care about Women's Rights but they care about polls and popularity and voting intentions.

Yes. I wonder what the outcome of the consultation will be? Even if the majority of those responding are in favour of self id, the majority of the public aren't. But that opens them up to criticism and bad publicity whatever they do - implement self id and women's group start protesting, don't and have LGBT groups protesting.

I suspect it's going to be kicked into the long grass with no clear decision, meanwhile tra will continue to pressure women and girls groups to centre them, like they are doing with the girls in GG.

theOtherPamAyres · 21/08/2018 15:31

The Green Party

has seen an upsurge in new members and is high-fiving it's rise in the polls.

Gender Critical Greens, like me, have left. There was a Green Women's Group (open to all) and a Woman by Name group (which does what it says on the tin - self identify as a woman and you're in).

Because members make policy, it is very easy for an interest group to join and push their hobby horse agenda. And the Trans Lobby did this so effectively that women fled.

  • A party that invented Turve - Blocker (sic) and the term non-men.
  • A party that promotes women's rights so long as they are the right to prostitute other women.
  • A party that thinks its OK to put thugs and sex offenders in women's prisons.

Not only will I not vote for the cowards that lead the party, but I will actively oppose them.

I don't see Women's Rights as a left-right thing. It affects everyone, whatever their political leanings. The issues touch every man, woman and child.

The Conservatives may be the first to blink, but Labour and the Greens have a lot more baggage and Gender Extremists in their midst and will find it harder. They really are all the same.

In all the time I've been able to vote I think I've voted Green once and maybe Lib Dem once. That would be back in the 80's.

Since then I've only ever spoilt my ballot as I don't think I've ever had a political home and I trust no one!

This issue has really cemented the fact that no political party believes that women are full human beings with as much right to autonomy and self-direction as any man.

What YesSir says above has really been brought into focus by the current assault on the rights of women and girls. I agree with every word.

The number of lefty bros who seem to have been straining at the leash just waiting for a chance to spew their hidden misogyny and get head pats for it is sickening - I'd take a straight up old school sexist who's never tried to hide that fact any day of the week over those cowardly woke turds.

I don't know how we can stop this and my cynical downer nature tells me that the top down grooming of schools, the law, the police, NHS, third sector and the government has been going on too long under the radar - the agenda has already been well and truly set with general ignorance of said agenda being taken as acceptance.

Ultimately I don't think it matters who's in government, the assault on the rights of women and girls looks like it's continuing apace, it's beyond depressing.......

They all lump women in with minority groups.

Women are half of the population and are underrepresented in areas of power because they are women, and have women's lives and biology and are brought up as women and have history against their inclusion. Ways need to be found to correct the imbalance.

Minorities are underrepresented because they are a minority and ways need to be found to make sure their needs are considered otherwise they get forgotten about, but they can also be overrepresented (like men). Half of them are women (usually).

They need different methods to make power accountable.

Truthmytruth · 21/08/2018 17:35

The Conservatives are in bed with DUP. I wonder what DUP think?

"Woman by Name group"

So totally confirming a view that woman is just a title, that anyone can have, and not a descriptor for half the population.

The speed with which the idea that woman is nothing more than a social group, like Goths or Elvis fans, is really worrying. I suppose a lot of people never saw us as people in the first place

tiredandweary · 21/08/2018 22:58

I see this as my vote is up for grabs. Have voted Labour for decades - but they're unelectable.
No matter how awful the Tories are, having seen Labour / Momentum's bullying, misogyny, antisemitism and outright hatred of anyone who thinks differently is chilling. Even a relatively innocent food like jerk chicken is used by a Labour MP to divide people fgs.
Like many others, if a party rocks up and promises to respect sex segregated spaces, stops funding groups that gaslight children, insist that no child is experimented on with off label drugs and agrees that women don't have penises then they can have my bloody vote. Because to enshrine in law men's personal beliefs, fantasies and sexual fetishes is as dangerous a precedent as there could be. Once one belief becomes law (TWAW) then there will be no stopping a torrent of people's beliefs being enshrined in law. It is incredibly dangerous.

Carrrotsandcauliflower · 21/08/2018 23:48

I don’t think I will ever trust another party again. I don’t think I ever had a complete faith in them anyway. I could take the rough with the smooth though. But seeing this rot, go right through so many big parties, forums and public life people just parroting anti female double speak. Has seriously made me think we are surrounded by people who are incapable of individual thought and the basic ability to do their job as our political champions. Rant over. I’m having a wine.

ShotsFired · 22/08/2018 08:37

If you don't object I will use this as the basis for my next letter to my MP (I will be forwarding him the consultation/my response to it and will use this type of simple "how to win votes and influence people" explanation in the cover note)

tiredandweary · 22/08/2018 08:44

ShotsFired

Of course you should use it. On the Julia Long thread I commented that women are becoming more articulate and to the point about all this and it's because we've been educating ourselves, sharing information and using our collective knowledge / wisdom - so much of it being shared via this board.

LangCleg · 22/08/2018 08:47

I see this as my vote is up for grabs.

Same here. I'm telling all of them that my ballot paper will be spoiled until any party comes out with a pro-woman platform.

Carrrotsandcauliflower · 22/08/2018 09:02

Langcleg ! There’s the hashtag right there.

Carrrotsandcauliflower · 22/08/2018 09:04

#Iwillspoilmyvoteuntilanypartycomesoutwithaprowomanplatform.

It’s a bit long. But it makes sense.

sociopathsunited · 22/08/2018 09:21

This is the first time in my life (50 years old) that I find myself genuinely in a political wasteland.

I believe in none of them. Not one. Not one MP, not one party, represents me, simply because I am a woman. No other reason. Simply because I have two X chromosomes.

How fucking depressing.

WarmWishes · 22/08/2018 09:27

Yep my vote up for grabs too apart from UKIP or similar.

Carrrotsandcauliflower · 22/08/2018 09:43

The spoiling vote sentence has just gone off to jeremy’s Email. Who else next-

Carrrotsandcauliflower · 22/08/2018 09:44

Anybody want to join me? Might be good to get lots in at once while sticker woman is doing such an amazing job!

Carrrotsandcauliflower · 22/08/2018 09:52

Local Lib Dem’s done- that should be an interesting reply.
The subject was
WOMEN DONT HAVE PENISES

I also mentioned;
In light of the recent decent into no platforming women, the denial of biology and the blind following of nonsensical dogma.

Carrrotsandcauliflower · 22/08/2018 09:53

O didn’t repeat myself in real lifeWink

YogaPants · 22/08/2018 09:58

I think what has led to TWAW gaining so much political traction is that it is essentially a conservative (in an American Christian fundamentalist type way rather than a British way) belief system dressed up as liberal-progressive.

I don’t think it is liberal at all.

To embrace it you need to believe in:

  1. mind-body dualism. People have separate souls and bodies that exist independently of each other.
  2. men and women have different and set roles in society
  3. biology (evolution) is secondary (i.e. unimportant) compared with your soul/spirituality
Bingpot · 22/08/2018 10:11

I think that's a really interesting point YogaPants.

I will definitely be spoiling my ballot. I can't vote for any party that believes 'woman' is a feeling and not a material biological difference to men.

This has made me realise I need to write to my MP.

NothingOnTellyAgain · 22/08/2018 10:19

that's a really interesting post yoga pants, and true

You could add a belief that women are secondary, exist to "support" men etc which is the first point but it's a hierarchy. We are helpmeets.
