The attack on women’s right to say “no” to sex

I know this has been a theme throughout time and history but very recently, say the last 10 years but particularly the last 5 there seem to have developed groups of men with their own ideology in Western societies which gives them the right to demand women have sex with them. Those that come to mind are Incels and the Transactivists (who call themselves lesbians and demand that actual Lesbians accept them as sexual partners).

This seems to have coincided most obviously with on-line pornography when women are always willing and available with very little effort on the part of men. Now men who want sex with women but aren’t getting it are not forming groups asking “what do women want in a sexual partner, let’s ask them” instead they are angrily “explaining” how they are entitled to sex. They are also extremely angry at women for “withholding” what they want.

Is there more to this? Is it just pornography? I guess another very important element is the gathering of like minds on the internet to wind each other up and build these organized groups.

What is going to be the outcome of these aggressive ideologies?

There is a global recognition that the notion of "consent" and the "right to say no" aren't good enough. Instead, there are models where "only a yes means yes".

In the 'yes means yes' model, there is a continuing responsibility on both parties to affirm, at every stage and throughout. Perceived non-verbal cues and passivity aren't enough. Only a Yes will suffice.

it removes the onus on the victim to show resistance to the act, or the fact they said no, and addresses a culture of entitlement in sexual interactions. Requiring affirmation, it is argued, can be used to create a culture of respect.

Pitiful convictions for rape as well.

I know it is in the US, but this doctor did actually manage to get convicted of raping a heavily sedated patient. But he was not sent to jail. That would be too much to ask.

I know and his lawyer made some outrageous statements that I was shocked were admissible in court to the jury in his closing statement. Talking about her “fake breasts” really sexualising her like she was giving him the “come one” while sedated.

And yet a man who attacked a sleeping woman on a plane could get life because it was a federal crime as they were in the air.
