Apologies if this has been posted before.

Why I Changed My Mind - Samantha Kane

Samantha Kane has changed gender three times, from male to female and then back to male, before transitioning a second time to female. She tells Dominic Lawson the powerful story of her personal journey, and the challenges she faced whilst building three careers as a barrister, entrepreneur and published author. And she replies to critics who have questioned whether transgender women like her should be considered 'real women'.

Nice illustration of just how sexist the ideology is, amongst other things.

Listened to this a few days ago. Agree OP, sad that Sam felt the need to make radical changes just to feel like they fitted in but I think it's the sexual and gender stereotypes that have been the cause of the problems rather than anything else.

The convenient chopping and changing for career progression purposes was a nice touch Hmm

Unfortunately couldn't get further than the point where the person said that all women feel exactly the same. I am not in a position to say this, so who knows why this person feels they are qualified.

Dominic Lawson made me swear loudly at the radio when he said "but you used to do such male things like buying and selling football clubs". Someone better tell Karen Brady and Delia Smith they are probably men.

For Kane, Womanhood is about behaviour and appearance. It is about rejecting the need to mix with men - they gave the example of ultra-masculine young footballers - because they cannot bring themselves to act similarly, but don't want to be seen as weak. They believe that woman have some sort of (sexual?) power over such men, and they need to exert that power. (ie Alpha male but in a wig)

They were able to take off their costume of womanhood, when it suited.

They came from Bagdad. Iraq is notorious for enforced "conversion" of gay men into women, by surgery. Iraq is one of the worst places in the world to be gay and lesbian. I would have liked Dominic Lawson to explore the impact of growing up gay, or an effeminate man, in such an environment. Lawson seemed a bit coy about touching on the topic. Kane was uncomfortable talking about sexual orientation.

A little skating on the suggestion of a deep inside gender identity, and then externals and stereotypes and societal expectations all the way.

And so telling to be asked the question "What effect did this have on your family?" and respond that your wife divorced you and you don't see your kids. That's what happened to you, sunshine. What was the effect on them?

This! This a million times.

Crikey, what a confused person!

Describes themselves as a surgical approximation but also as more deserving of ‘womanhood’ than biological women...
