...who decided that transition wasn't for her and now believes that gender dysphoria should be treated more carefully than just setting dysphoric kids on the path to transition.

I found this almost unbearably moving in parts, and a fascinating exploration of what it is to be a woman in society, and how societal representations of womanhood can lead to disassociation with our bodies.

Carey Callahan is a wonderful speaker - balanced, respectful, articulate and honest.

This is so worth a listen. Link below.

I can't see anything to watch in that link? Am I missing it?

vivalafrida · 11/08/2018 10:28

If you click on the link in white text, 'loveandradio.prx.org' that's on the top left of the page, it'll take you to the station's webpage.

Let's see if I can find a better link...

This is absolutely amazing thank you so much op.

BettyDuMonde · 11/08/2018 10:46

Carey is wonderfully generous with her knowledge-from experience and has a YouTube channel and website (and is one of the detransitioners interviewed in the recent Atlantic article).

She is a brilliant resource for parents concerned about ROGD due to her insight through self reflection.

(Will try and listen to podcast later, thanks!)

It really is, cigarstring.

Love and Radio is s great podcast channel, but this really knocks it out of the park.

The bit about the stars and light pollution and the shower line at Mitchfest was just one of many deeply touching and compelling stories.

vivalafrida · 11/08/2018 11:35

That was the bit that got to me, along with the part where she gave the pizza to the homeless guy and realised she could find peace by projecting outwards rather than inwards.

Just so damn on the money, isn't she?

Wow that article makes me rethink pmt big time.I had it badly before the pill, the pregnancies and the menopause. My daughter has it now. I'm going to discuss this with her.

vivalafrida · 11/08/2018 11:48

Me too. I've often wondered whether my PMT week is the week when I won't put up with the shit I suck up for the rest of the month.

That blog post is amazing.

And me! Tried to explain to stbexh that things that cause PMT outbursts do annoy me the rest of the time as well, just I can't hold it in when I'm premenstrual

QuentinSummers · 11/08/2018 12:15

Read the post now, she is amazing, wow. I need someone like that in my corner Grin

gendercritter · 11/08/2018 12:25

Gosh that has really struck a chord with me

silentcrow · 11/08/2018 14:16

Very much worth a listen, thanks so much for posting. The calls she was getting at the shelter from the person who wanted a baby...that was heart breaking.

I agree very much, too, that we don't see other female bodies of all types - when I took up several different sports after having my children, it was absolutely transformative for me to see all these shapes and ages of women getting out there, moving their bodies without the slightest shame. Some of my biggest sporting heroes are women in their fifties and sixties, even a few in their seventies. I'm so glad the sports I love are all-age inclusive, too, so my girls can have a whole range of role models.

vivalafrida · 11/08/2018 14:37

Wasn't it, silentcrow? Poor thing.

I'm at a stage where I'm trying to get fit in my forties belatedly and I'm trying very hard to stop comparing my body to the taut Lycra-clad examples I see around me.

In my yoga class there are people of all shapes and sizes, and every one of us looks strong and elegant when practising. There's beauty in the human body, whatever its age and size.
