Will the GRA thing turn out a bit like Rotherham?

Where women and girls are thrown under the bus and prosecuted by authorities instead of recognised as victims?

Then, once the body count hits thousands of traumatised children and it finally gets exposed everyone will cite the authorities fear of being seen to be persecuting a marginalised group as the problem.

Rather than their utter lack of respect or care for women and girls?

I think that is a reasonable expectation if safekeeping is completely disregarded.

JessicaJonesJacket · 10/08/2018 00:41

Yy I think that's likely. Although I am utterly pessimistic about the numbers needed before it's recognised as a massive disaster.

daughterofanarchy · 11/08/2018 17:01

I would say it’s definitely possible.

Jozxyqk · 11/08/2018 17:05

Safekeeping is not prioritised. It seems likely that eventually, someone will take advantage of that.

CigarsofthePharoahs · 11/08/2018 17:08

It's a depressingly real possibility. I wish it wasn't, but it is.

TalkingintheDark · 11/08/2018 17:09

Yes. I think there are definite parallels here.

Although I think it is partly the authorities’ fear of being seen to be persecuting a marginalised minority of males that is the problem. That goes hand in hand with the utter lack of respect or care for women and girls. Two sides of the same coin.

sunshinesupermum · 11/08/2018 17:10

What is the 'GRA thing'?

Ereshkigal · 11/08/2018 17:10

YY Talking, exactly.

I think it might, though on a smaller scale. There's some evidence of women and children being harmed in Canada as a direct result of women's sex segregated spaces being opened up to self IDed transwomen.
I know we must be very careful not to generalise, but there does seem to be a significant number of TW with a history of violence and/or questionable attitudes towards girls and women and I think there will inevitably be some crimes committed.

IncrediblySturdyPyjamas · 11/08/2018 20:46

'lessons to learn'

I guarantee that will be in the PM's statement on the issue.

womanspeaking · 11/08/2018 21:02

Yes.
As trans organisations are actively advocating for the removal of safeguarding from groups of children - adults keeping their confidences instead of sharing information as they are meant to, promoting parental alienation and removing parental rights and responsibilities without access to the courts, then I believe it is absolutely inevitable. Some children will be left adrift outside the protection of those meant to care for them. And once sex segregated spaces disappear and any sex offender, paedophile, porn soaked adult is able to access previously sex segregated spaces we will see even more damage.

Macareaux · 11/08/2018 22:18

I used to think so, but now I think the whole ideology is so widespread and so ingrained in the places that matter - political parties, schools, universities, hospitals, etc that I don't know if we will ever turn this ship around.
I get the impression that pretty much everyone under 25 believes TWAW.
Too many people have too much invested and there is too much money being made.

The people who should be making a stand against this - female MPs, GPs, the WEP, LGB organisations etc etc are not. And I could even forgive them to a degree if I thought they all believed in it. I don't think they do which makes it even worse.

Wanderabout · 11/08/2018 22:52

I get the impression that pretty much everyone under 25 believes TWAW.

From where? They certainly don't believe as a majority in Self-ID in any age group.

thebewilderness · 11/08/2018 23:19

I get the impression that pretty much everyone under 25 believes TWAW.

That impression has been carefully crafted by lobbyists and propagandists, all evidence to the contrary.

noeffingidea · 11/08/2018 23:42

My son is under 25 and has told me that no one he knows believes that TWAW, and he's a student.

Iizzyb · 12/08/2018 00:04

Have spent a few days in London - usually live in a northern city.

Have found myself in various situations where I felt vulnerable this week - unisex toilets in a pret but sinks were outside the cubicles - me plus 5yr old ds found ourselves in an enclosed space alone with a strange man, we almost got on a tube carriage with literally no women at all. I could go on. The world is just not geared up for the type of change being sought. Women and girls just basically being thrown under a bus. Cx

JessicaJonesJacket · 12/08/2018 01:22

The under 25-yr-olds I know (including LGB) disagree that TWAW but they are wary about discussing it at uni.

borntobequiet · 12/08/2018 07:56

The Girl Guides thing will be the first to blow, as it’s such a clear safeguarding fail, and everything else will follow. I hope.
