So another sporting competition women will most likely never win again. Why don't the trans people realise how unfair this is and suggest they compete in a separate category so women can compete on a level playing field? This is in America but no doubt more sporting bodies will follow.

Of course they realise its not fair. They don't give a shit.

NotTerfNorCis · 04/08/2018 19:15

They always put themselves first.

BiologyIsReal · 04/08/2018 19:27

Yes of course they realise. But there is no room for fairness when it is all about me me me me me...ad nauseam.

RoseAndRose · 04/08/2018 19:33

What is Cross Fit Games?

Have it ever been affiliated to any national/international governing body?

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 04/08/2018 19:41

Cross Fit is the governing body...

TimeLady · 04/08/2018 19:46

The CrossFit Games is an athletic competition sponsored by Crossfit Inc. and Reebok.

Looks like they have big prize money for winners of both the men's and the women's categories...

Money as well as validation - it will be like shit to flies.

And yet again women lose opportunities. SadAngry

Pippylou · 04/08/2018 20:02

I was actually banned by CF HQ off their message boards for complaining they were misogynist! They have form here, just take a look at their FB page...

Love the exercise, but CF HQ are just bonkers in a bad, bad way.

TheCountryGirl · 04/08/2018 20:44

Happy, fTrans people know this is unfair and that's why they are doing it. They LOVE the unfairness.

RoseAndRose · 04/08/2018 20:46

So it's a commercial venture, not something that's going to be cropping up as a candidate for serious international athletic competition? And no part is accredited according to the norms of any of the international sporting regulation bodies, and never has been?

If so, then yes can see it makes a difference to this competition. But can't see how it maps over in any way at all to sports with international governing bodies.

happydappy2 · 04/08/2018 20:47

If only some men in sports would speak out & say this is unfair....what an unfair world we live in-its crap

OP posts:
gendercritter · 05/08/2018 08:59

So what if it's a commercial venture?

Crossfit involves a huge community of people who care passionately about it. The Crossfitters I know base their whole lives around it. There aren't enough women getting out there and keeping fit and yet Crossfit is popular with women. It encourages women to build muscle and strength too so is a million miles away from anything dainty and stereotypically feminine.

Just because you can't see that it has any importance, it doesn't mean that it doesn't matter to other people.

RoseAndRose · 05/08/2018 09:08

"So what if it's a commercial venture?"

That makes a difference as to whether it is likely to be something that governing bodies for sport in general are likely to follow. OP says that this is 'another sporting competition' that is changing, but if it is not one of the main governing bodies that has made the change, then what that means for it spreading in to mainstream sport is somewhat different.

Whips said that?
'then yes can see it makes a difference to this competition'
I think there was more than one level IYSWIM in this thread.

Four years ago, Crossfit were being sued by a transgender athlete. Crossfit's lawyers said:

The fundamental, ineluctable fact is that a male competitor who has a sex reassignment procedure still has a genetic makeup that confers a physical and physiological advantage over women. (…)

Our decision has nothing to do with ‘ignorance’ or being bigots — it has to do with a very real understanding of the human genome, of fundamental biology, that you are either intentionally ignoring or missed in high school.

Why they've backtracked on that (commonsense) view and thrown their female competitors under the bus is up for debate.

Article about this here.

The problem is that I'm fairly sure some people will think a trans woman competing in women's events will be like Paul Hunt's comedy gymnastics routines in the 80s. Look up YouTube to see what I mean. They don't see that its something that needs to be taken seriously.

The concern isn't that other sporting bodies will follow them, they are following others that have already gone down that road. It's just another one down, and as you say it's private so it didn't need to follow the trend. The IOC is already 'trans-inclusive'. They require a man to be on testosterone blockers for just one year in order to compete on the women's team. He is allowed to de-transition any time afterwards and keep the medals and title.

The last Commonwealth Games already had a bloke competing on the women's weightlifting team. It was an absolute farce. Luckily, he injured himself and the young women got their appropriate medals.
