I know this has been mentioned before, but I’ve just seen a thread on Twitter by @thejeffreymarsh where he is posting images of “trans and non binary “ people from years gone by. Marlene Dietrich is on there, she apparently dated people “of many genders “ that would be both SEXES then Jeffrey ? Also many other pics of men in drag and women in vaguely masculine dress who may or may not be lesbians. As most of them are theatrical performers they are mainly costumes anyway.
The ridiculousness of this . MAKE IT STOP.... AAARGHHHHH.

Alice, this is why Feminists make the obvious connection between MRA stuff and TRA stuff.

Like 'cis'. Insisting that the only way a woman doesn't 'identify' with her oppression is if she is actually a 'he' or an 'Enby'. If a woman is a woman simply because of her biology, and doesn't sit in the corner sewing meekly, she is a problem and unacceptable.

That's why this insistence that 'woman' is a shifting constellation, submissive, hesitant, fragile and delicate is so horribly oppressive and wrong.

Because you either submit to the control, or you forfeit your woman-ness. You are simply not allowed to do anything else. And if you do manage it in your lifetime, they will cheerfully fuck you over in death. Ghouls.

Sorry, the title of this thread just insists that I re-write some dialogue from the Sixth Sense. Apologies for any offense - this is meant as a joke.

TRA: I see trans people.

Other person: In your dreams?

[TRA shakes zer head no]

Other person: While you're awake?

[TRA nods]

Other person: Trans people like, historically? They're now in coffins?

TRA: They walked around like regular people. They didn't see each other. They only saw what they wanted to see. They don't know they're trans.

Other person: How often do you see them?

TRA: All the time. They're everywhere.

thebewilderness · 04/08/2018 21:08

The explanation for posthumously transitioning Joan of Arc was that any woman who accomplished anything throughout history must have been trans because a quick glance at history proves that women never accomplish anything.

Alicethroughtheblackmirror · 04/08/2018 21:08

Floral, yes, the MRAs could have written the TRA playbook for them! I was getting very angry earlier about that - wondering why people just can't see that all these smug men insisting on lady brains and feelings instead of biology are just reinforcing all the damaging stereotypes that were used to oppress us. I think it was Mr Lord who set me off. That a privileged man with all his contacts and special societies can just announce that he is "they" but change nothing and then merrily drive a coach and four through our rights...

Enby is a new one for me!

thebewilderness · 04/08/2018 21:10

It is the sound the abbreviation NB for non binary makes.
I think there is a name for that but I do not know it.

Alicethroughtheblackmirror · 04/08/2018 21:16

Ah, thank you. Non binary winds me up no end. I have young relatives who are very into all this

  • it seems to be a way for young straight people in heterosexual relationships to be interesting because he occasionally wears eye liner and she's worn a tie. I seem to remember that was beyond tame in the 80s but none of us claimed victim status for our brave and stunning non-conformity!
RiceandBeans · 04/08/2018 21:27

And George Eliot.

Oh yes, she was definitely trans. And it’s recently come to light that G. H. Lewis was actually Georgianna Henrietta.

RiceandBeans · 04/08/2018 21:28

Agh my phone is making me look like ignorant .

(I mentioned the hundreds of women who disguised themselves and fought in the American civil war).

Oh! Alice, was it you that mentioned the book Neverhome a couple of weeks and a billion posts ago? I managed to get a copy, really looking forward to reading. Thanks!

SirVixofVixHall · 04/08/2018 21:41

@heresyandwitchcraft I ❤️ You.

Alicethroughtheblackmirror · 04/08/2018 21:42

It wasn't. I'd love to claim credit, but no...

I think I just brought up Jennie Hodgers on the back of my rather dry reading but the stories deserve wider audience, so I'm glad!

TheCountryGirl · 04/08/2018 21:51

Heresy I did that too, with The Terminator.

Listen and understand. The TRAs are out there. They can't be bargained with, they can't be reasoned with. They don't feel pity, or remorse or fear, and they absolutely will not stop until you are dead.

silentcrow · 04/08/2018 22:02

Alice ah well. Thanks to whoever it was! I love stories of real historical women saying "screw this, let's get stuff done", whether they had to dress as men or not.

Wherismymind · 04/08/2018 22:26

But I thought mis-gendering was literal violence?

So how come TRA can now assume the gender of historical figures?

heresyandwitchcraft · 04/08/2018 22:44

TheCountryGirl
Smile Love a Terminator joke!

SirVixofVixHall · 04/08/2018 22:47

@Alicethroughtheblackmirror Bring back the 80s I say. Even the pie crust collars if it gets us out of this mess.

Saw this Twitter thread today which was made to celebrate butch lesbians: https://twitter.com/stressbianism/status/1025837633908482048?s=21]]

Alicethroughtheblackmirror · 04/08/2018 22:55

Vix I had some shocking pie crust collars! And later some properly heavy goth jewellery. Not to mention a couple of years when I wore my dad's pink flares with my mum's silver platforms. I'll promise to wear them all at once if this stops!

IJustHadToNameChange · 04/08/2018 22:59

Men are also being posthumously transed.

Marsha P. Johnson, drag queen, gay man and an activist, was a transwoman.

www.nytimes.com/interactive/2018/obituaries/overlooked-marsha-p-johnson.html

He was a drag queen who set up STAR; Street Transvestite Action Revolutionaries.

TheCountryGirl · 04/08/2018 23:02

Vix bring back shoulder pads, blue eyeshadow and Bonnie Taylor if it meant putting an end to this trans crapola!

TheCountryGirl · 04/08/2018 23:03

Tyler ffs!

SirVixofVixHall · 04/08/2018 23:03

Pink flares with silver platforms.....I can go with that. Oh yes.

OP posts:
TheCountryGirl · 04/08/2018 23:04

Heresy I know.,,ould Arnie is always good for a joke or two. Like most men.

thebewilderness · 05/08/2018 00:29

Marsha P. Johnson, drag queen, gay man and an activist, was a transwoman.

I found it particularly significant that they forcibly transitioned a male to give him credit for starting the Stonewall riot, he was not at, in order to erase the Lesbian who was there and did inspire it, Storme DeLarverie,
I guess they wanted some misogyny with their homophobia.

IJustHadToNameChange · 05/08/2018 00:34

Well of course.

Cuz women are pretty, simpering, little things who never do anything horrid, like punching someone. Hmm
