Daily Report

Sorry but sometimes I just can't keep up. And I can try and read ten pages but get confused or miss the important bit.

In these days of extreme importance can we have a daily, succinct report? I'm probably looking at you Rowen.

Try not to contribute unless something important has been missed. Shall we say 9pm?

If this is a crazy idea or would help our detractors just say so just a thought.

I think this is a great idea. It's so fast moving.

Wrathofjurgenklop · 04/08/2018 10:03

With so many more of us joining the debate everyday, we need to be selective about what we are reading and posting, (myself included) Blush and, at the same time keeping our minds open.
The determination of particular posters who like to derail threads seems to show they have far too much time on their hands.

Some threads pop up like clickbait, other threads start out promising then are kicked plopped into oblivion. MNHQ are doing their best.

We are being watched.
The threads are being watched.

Yes a daily report would be nice but there's no need. We are all mostly adults here.
I have been lurking here on this site since the Autumn last year and watching how the discussions develop has been interesting and entertaining.

There are many excellent, articulate posters that I personally look out for every day. I also like to watch the ridiculous plopping posters too, just to see how stupid they end up looking.

The midnight trolls are wasting their time with me.

To all the articulate GC posters out there, thankyou for your contributions, I salute you all. Flowers

The debate continues.

UpstartCrow · 04/08/2018 10:04

I think this is a good idea. People using the site on mobile have a hard time keeping up.

Rufustheyawningreindeer · 04/08/2018 10:05

rowan would be excellent

And i used to love reds summation on the brexit threads (very funny)

Although maybe they werent supposed to be funny...

Agastache · 04/08/2018 10:08

Who knew a bunch of women talking could be so powerful as to have to be monitored by men every day.

Brew

And we wondered why men always said we talked too much. Lol.

I always thought men would have much more brave and stunning things to be getting on with, seems not.

Wrathofjurgenklop · 04/08/2018 10:22

Upstart
Here I am at home on a sunny Saturday morning using my laptop,
I forgot all about the mobile users. It's all about me me me! Apologies. Smile
Yes, there is a need to bring the useful stuff to the surface on a daily basis, so we can all be better informed.

I'm inclined to agree with this.

It's great that the place is so busy but I can't keep up with every thread. I'm inclined to pick a couple that are of particular interest to me and make as meaningful a contribution to them as I can. I'm here to talk to other women, so I am not really interested in Twitter-style threads that basically amount to slanging matches with TRAs, so if I thread I'm interested in descends into that, I'll give it a go at getting it back on topic and if that doesn't work, I'll just abandon it. Others might enjoy the slanging matches but they're not for me.

I can't imagine anyone having the time to read and precis everything for a daily report and we'll all have different priorities so will contribute different things and it will simply become unmanageable.

Nice idea and sentiment, OP, but I don't think it would work. I think we just need to be more disciplined about the whole thing.

As a general point, it would be really helpful if when starting threads with important informatiion, the titles include relevent words.

For example if linking an article, its useful to have the title / subject and or author.

It can also be helpful if additional information is added to relevent threads rather than lots of little ones.

THere have been a few lately where OP has changed the title (MN were happy to do this)

Additionally worth bearing in mind that MN threads rank quite highly on Google search, so this can be useful for anyone searching for more information about specific issues etc.

I have noticed that searching using MN has become harder recently, not sure why

R0wantrees · 04/08/2018 10:26

and with regards the suggestion, Im sorry but its not something I can do.

Wrathofjurgenklop · 04/08/2018 11:01

Twitter style threads
Blimey we don't want MN modelling itself on bloody Twitter. That echo chamber is appalling.
I just love the MN format and I go straight to Feminism chat.
As Rowan mentioned, the thread titles are important, they can be either intentionally or unintentionally misleading so careful scrutiny is needed.
Like teachers reminding us at school exams, "Read the question!"
And if MN is getting high up in the google searches then it's top marks to us and MNStar.
Has to be for the right reasons though.

Wouldn't that be loverly?
To be able to tell which to roll the eyes at and which to click?

LaSquirrel · 05/08/2018 02:32

I do agree with better titles.
Sometimes I do overlook threads with strange titles - and I tend to be fairly selective in picking threads of interest on that basis.

Ekphrasis · 05/08/2018 07:15

Thread titles are important as a couple of times I've searched for a topic when reading a thread and the thread comes up included in the search.

theOtherPamAyres · 05/08/2018 20:44

You are all doing a great job, CSI Mumsnet - but following a topic like Jess Bradley part 3 is getting impossible.

I don't know what the answer is: newbies can be directed to catch-up topics; we've got link to articles and news item; and Rowan is amazing at digging up stuff from the archive or elsewhere.

There is so much information to absorb, and so many mumsnetters getting involved, it's going to be a challenge, that's for sure.

raisinsarenottheonlyfruit · 08/08/2018 17:26

What if we have a daily round up thread going.

No actual comment (as that's too big a job to take on).

But simply a list of links to whatever is going on that day.

This is so fast moving, it'd be useful to have a list, even, with links to MN threads and news reports. It'd build up into a useful timeline, after a while.

It's very simple. We just start the thread, then add links to it each day, that are about whatever's happened or come to light that day. Each link can have a sentence or two describing what it is, but no discussion - that's for other threads.

I think it'd be a useful resource.

What do you think? Useful?
