So on Wednesday night we had a get together with a bunch of women in Leeds, and I think it went well but we have decided that because Womans Place are touring, We need to Talk are mobile, we also need a solid base where roots can form and women can talk openly. We are going to repeat the event monthly in Leeds, the next events we will actually livestream because it wont be me who manages the IT(am inept) but I wanted to let you know we were going to do it that way if you wanted to come. I dont know if Mumsnet will allow this, am not sure of the rules or if it counts as advertising. I dont make money off it so its not commercial.

Great stuff Lisa. I'm miles away (and I've never been to Leeds in my life!) but I wish you every success. Think it's a really good idea

There is a bar.

Do we have to limbo under it in bikinis in the style of the Womens Permitted Olympics? (there was a thread recently, it was hilarious)

The sociology department of Leeds University having key pro-prostitution lobbyists on the faculty.

Link?

Thanks Mxyzptlk for the name check of our Scottish group, forwomen.scot Smile

I've messaged a couple of posters on this thread (with my normal MN name) but if anyone else in Scotland is interested in more info, please just send me a pm. I can also be contacted at the email given on our website.

We've about 60 members so far and have a couple of events in the pipeline.

sounds suspiciously like consciousness raising to me

Yes it does! Grin and not like 'advertising'. You are not a commercial organisation advertising for financial profit, but a politically inspired collective raising awareness about the safety of women and girls.

That's great news! I had to miss the last one unfortunately, so good to know there will be more 😁

If limboing under a bar is required that might count me outConfused

I'm a member of a women's group in Merseyside. We are preparing to go public soon, and it would be great to link up.

I've mentioned it to the group.

We need more grassroots groups and I'll tell you why.

I am in correspondence with my local authority about their stance on statutory consultation with people within the 'protected' characteristics. They only have four groups (race, age, LBGT and disabled) because they say they've had difficulty finding representatives from the others.

I've pointed out that they might need to go to Specsavers.

They must have overlooked the 41 branches of the WI, the 24 branches of the Townswomens Guild, the umpteen County Sports Associations for women and girls in football, golf, athletics, cricket, etc including a project to get more women into sport and cycling; as well as County bodies for Guides, brownies etc.

There really is no excuse for an absence of consultation with women at a local level. But it has the consequence of "out of sight, out of mind" and needs rectifying.

Good luck!
