Misogynistic survey from local council

North Lanarkshire Council is asking people to take part in a survey about etiquette and social attitudes in order to help guide policy. Maybe other local councils are doing similar surveys. The majority of the questions are about sexual assault and TO WHAT EXTENT WOMEN ARE TO BLAME FOR BEING RAPED. So far, the council have ignored numerous complaints on the survey is still there.

wow?!

Have complained. It's despicable. Talk about leading questions.

It is indeed down but an apology and an explanation should be issued. These questions were leading and inappropriate let alone not remotely suitable to gauge cultural attitudes about sexual assault.

Jeeez! That’s horrific!!! What you want to know is who composed and published that.

They did reply and apparently they were working with a local violence against women group. They claim the questions were based on a survey published by the Scottish government in 2014 about social attitudes on violence towards women.
Seems legit right?
However, I doubt the 2014 study was veiled behind a survey on “etiquette”. No apology was made for the presentation, nor was there any mention made over the outrage it caused. Apparently in 2018 you can nestle a questionnaire about rape amongst bin collection times and parking restrictions and we are not to get upset about it.
I am going to dig up the 2014 survey and see how the questions compare. I also wonder why they just didn’t use the 2014 study results which would have a much larger data sample.
They promised to share the results with those of us who complained so I look forward to being told something I already know.

The report on the 2014 Scottish Social Attitudes Survey: www.gov.scot/Resource/0048/00489760.pdf

They did ask to what extent women were to blame for their rape within certain contexts. However, those questions were part of a host of questions on social attitudes to gendered violence and abuse. And the surveys were done in person, on a small but statistically valid random sampling. They weren't a poorly presented in a crappy web survey that anyone could take and that really can't be expected to have any statistical validity for the whole population they are concerned with.

Ooohhh! I have heard tales of the legendary mumsnet info warriors. Things slip my mind with alarming consistency.
So, Scotgov thought this was a survey best done with some discretion and with context. I shall put that to NLCC and ask again if they feel an apology is in order.

I would also ask if they've considered better training (like any at all) on statistics and research for whoever commissioned and signed off on the thing.
