It seems Followers of Genderism and trans rights extremists are picking a topic per day to go after. Today is attacking women who are discussing mental health in relation to the shift in women’s rights and being forced lie and erode safeguarding and dignity.

I think it would be interesting to discuss their tactics and the ways in which they try to derail valid topics and the valid concerns of women.

If you’ve noted their tactics please share here.

That one on the mental health thread is a spectacularly crap example of a TRA, though. If the best they can do is tell us we should spend less time on social media and continue to insist that self-id 'won't be a problem', they're wasting their time.

ReluctantCamper · 28/07/2018 17:32

oh the faux concern

I think you should remove yourself from this board which is making you paranoid

ugh

UglyCathKidstonBag · 28/07/2018 17:35

Slinging around the word “hysteria” is so troubling.

ScienceBlogs' Denialsm is mostly about science denialism - strapline, Don't Mistake Denialism for Debate.

However, there's lots of useful discussion in there about denialism tactics, links to courses on Denialism 101 such as this one which tend to be about a specific science topic but the underlying principles are the same (graphic of 5 principles in that post is helpful).

I've just said on another thread that I think it is insulting to OPs, who start threads wanting to discuss something specific, only to have them immediately derailed with talking point a, b or c.

I'm feeling highly irritable about this at the moment and am buggering off to eat chocolate and drink a nice cup of tea.

LangCleg · 28/07/2018 17:45

But never thee fear: I will be back. Just need that chocolate.

arranfan · 28/07/2018 17:47

I have no way of knowing but find it interesting that a poster who is informing women that their concerns are inappropriate (MH) thread as identified "As a coach" which I'm reading as the "False expert" tactic (arguing from authority). The "magnified minority" branch of that is also relevant.

thebewilderness · 28/07/2018 17:51

The "concern trolling" and forced teaming always seems to fly under the mods radar for some reason.

UglyCathKidstonBag · 28/07/2018 18:04

It is definitely a daily co-ordinated attack on specific topics. It is transparent.

OP posts:
FloralBunting · 28/07/2018 18:45

Good grief yes. Entirely co ordinated behaviour, quite astonishing.

Today's one is pretty unpleasant, though. Going after posters who have admitted a vulnerability (why am I not surprised?). This past week the goading of parents especially has been extremely nasty.

enoughisenough12 · 28/07/2018 18:50

There's one who's popped up several times on the safeguarding threads chirruping that they can't imagine why we haven't all reported the abuse we're alleging.
Of course, that's as far as they dare go as if they actually challenged what was being said they would have to face the grim reality of what is actually happening.

Bowlofbabelfish · 28/07/2018 18:52

Yes it is looking like a pattern. We’ve had:

Appropriation: of infertility, cancer, and a few other things. Added bonus with this one that it is highly emotive and provokes posters into reacting emotionally so they can be reported.

Science word salad. My personal favourite because evidence and logic is all you need to dispel it.

Contentious postings: post is aimed at getting people to use a banned word, term or phrase.

Plopping: ‘excellent study that shows...(absolutely not what you say it does)’

Faux concern: mental health like today.

Blatant MRA/TRA attack - getting fewer, because they can’t keep any type of emotional control and explode into misogynistic rage after an average of seven posts.

I’m sure I’ve missed a few.

LangCleg · 28/07/2018 19:27

explode into misogynistic rage after an average of seven posts

As many as seven?

Bowlofbabelfish · 28/07/2018 19:33

Seems to be fairly constant langcleg Grin

Sweep in and mansplain
Mansplain again
Bafflement that manly opinion not deferred to
Tries again, harder language
Mild anger
Usually a joke
RAGE

Every time I see it I wonder who these men are in real life, then I see how many men cannot sit behind a driver taking a second to react to a green light without shouting, or cannot drive at the speed limit, and I think yeah... lot of it about. I’m astonished at how many people (mainly men) are incapable of self restraint.

Blatant MRA/TRA attack

those are my favourites

the spittle flecked defence of (say) anime, or Jordan Peterson is always highly entertaining

Ereshkigal · 28/07/2018 20:35

Unsolicited PMs

Bowlofbabelfish · 28/07/2018 20:37

Oh yes! I had a few of those!

And ye gods... it was a crazy mix of abuse, streams of consciousness and a come-on.

Most peculiar

Ereshkigal · 28/07/2018 20:38

The one I had today just scolded me for being transphobic.

FloralBunting · 28/07/2018 20:40

I never get dodgy PMs. My name is never on those meme lists about who will visit Barbados this year either.

Bowlofbabelfish · 28/07/2018 20:40

Oh I havent had one of them. I seem to attract the crazy menfolk. Grin

Have you learned your lesson? (I do hope not...)Grin

ReluctantCamper · 28/07/2018 21:28

Unsolicited PMs

heavens. it's almost like some people don't understand the concept of boundaries

bd67th · 28/07/2018 23:02

@FloralBunting My name is never on those meme lists about who will visit Barbados this year either.

Is this something to do with "Me And A Gun" by Tori Amos?

FloralBunting · 28/07/2018 23:10

bd67th, crikey, I think that would make that one of the sharpest, most brittle off the cuff flippant jokes I've ever made.

Sadly, it just coincidence and a trip to Barbados was just the last one of those name list memes I saw on social media.

Ereshkigal · 29/07/2018 01:48

Have you learned your lesson? (I do hope not...)

What do you think? Grin
