Apparently they are calling for listeners ideas for programmes over the summer. I can think of a few, given that they have avoided the elephants in the room for so long...shall we give them some ideas?!

Perhaps we could just keep a record here of how many have written in.

UglyCathKidstonBag · 27/07/2018 13:42

What a great idea.
I will be writing in for sure.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 27/07/2018 13:51

Have they done the Girl Guides? I can't remember.

Lancelottie · 27/07/2018 13:55

How about a general topic on the way women's evidence is discounted, but that of Male Persons given more credit, even if saying the same thing?

Gosh, can't think of any examples off the top of my head...

borntobequiet · 27/07/2018 14:01

Thanks for the heads up...I must say, I generally don’t bother with WH any more as I find it tiresome and a bit humourless and holier than thou. Will write.

Charliethefeminist · 27/07/2018 14:16

I think they tried doing girl guides but it was shut down by transactivists refusing to engage.

Charliethefeminist · 27/07/2018 14:18

Double standards as obviously there are plenty of trains voices on the BBC who aren't matched with a feminist voice for balance.

Angryresister · 27/07/2018 14:32

They have certainly allowed men's voices on a variety of topics over the last year. I wrote suggesting a whole programme could be taken by gender critical voices, without the need to have males talking about being hurt... So much material there , so many strong women to speak...surely they can't ignore this for ever?

OP posts:
arranfan · 27/07/2018 15:33

I can't see a link on the BBC (but then it's hot and I'm dull of observation). Did they say if they wanted the suggestions emailed, how many words, etc.?

Woman's Hour

BlytheByName · 27/07/2018 15:54

I have emailed a little list .. for starters ...

Why girls with ASD are transitioning in such large numbers.

Girlguiding guidelines allow male bodies to sleep in tents with girls and not inform parents, is this a safe guarding issue?

What is the definition of a woman?

Should the Labour Party have allowed anyone who self defines as a woman to have a place on All Womens Shortlists?

What is the impact of porn on children in light of a recent Metropolitan Police report to primary schools that found the game Roblocs had a group of characters threatening to gang rape a six year old's character.

Gender neutral changing rooms - what the law actually says and what shops do.

Womens rights to choose the sex of their carer, nurse, doctor.

Lesbian Erasure in the LGBT community

The erasure of lesbian icons such as Anne Lister

Violence against women on social media

Facebook bias against gender critical groups such as WPUK

Female MPs silence over the self id issue. Who is speaking up for women and children?

Woman's Hour's silence over the issue of self id. BBC bias?

That took me about five minutes. I am sure if I have a cuppa I will really get going!

Turph · 27/07/2018 16:10

Good luck Blythe, good list too

dinodora · 27/07/2018 16:48

I posted this on another r4 thread recently:

Just re found the women's hour prog regarding this from the 3rd July.

*"In the autumn women's hour are going to be looking in greater detail at sex and gender."

They'd like to know thoughts on:

  • "why more born females decide to identify as male"
  • "is your safety at risk because you were born a woman or because you identify as one"
  • if you are a lesbian, trans woman, non binary or have any experience in this area please email the website; they will be combined in a series of features and articles in the autumn.*

I think there's quite a few things been confused and mixed up there.

dinodora · 27/07/2018 16:48

Great list Blythe!

dinodora · 27/07/2018 16:49

Statements in quotes are direct quotes from the programme.

Agustarella · 27/07/2018 16:54

I avoid WH like the plague, but I think they could do with some younger perspectives. It's basically 'Baby boomers' hour' like most of the rest of R4, and it grates. I think Jenni Murray is the smuggest woman on the planet after Mariella Frostrup. Sorry for venting. :)

Angryresister · 27/07/2018 21:51

I think Blythe has just about covered it.

OP posts:
Mossandclover · 27/07/2018 22:41

Assaults and rapes of girls in schools toilets.

Moves to teach children about consent and boundaries and why girls do not have the right to refuse to consent to undressing in front of males.

Thesuzle · 27/07/2018 23:28

Gonna need wayyy more than an hour

BlackeyedSusan · 29/07/2018 00:14

They are doing a whole week. listeners week.

Angryresister · 29/07/2018 14:29

They could fill the whole week if they chose....

OP posts:
arranfan · 29/07/2018 14:31

I'd like to know what WH think Hannah Arendt (The Origins of Totalitarianism) would think of what's happening now and whether women are seeing an uptick in totalitarian behaviour patterns.

I may pop them an email.

Starkstaring · 29/07/2018 14:39

Self harm. Why breast binding and mastectomies are being normalised.
