As noticed on their Instagram page.

Femfresh here’s a little Biology 101 lesson for you. “People with vaginas” are known as WOMEN and GIRLS.

I'm not sure what you're looking at, but just looked at their Instagram page and all of the posts are tagged #womenshealth

AngryAttackKittens · 25/07/2018 01:06

2 things.

  1. People with vaginas are colloquially known as "women". Realizing this may help when marketing products to them.
  1. Please don't put products with perfumes in them up your fanjo.
ChoccoBiccy66 · 25/07/2018 01:13

Read their responses to people’s comments, that’s where they’re saying it.

Can’t believe Femfresh still exists. Ridiculous company that plays on misogynistic ideas about the supposed dirtiness/smelliness of female genitals to market an at best useless and at worst damaging product to insecure women. Can’t say I really care about what words they use to do that.

Dottierichardson · 25/07/2018 01:17

Sloth tend to agree with you, doesn't that kind of product cause problems for maintaining healthy balance of vaginal flora?

Ihuntmonsters · 25/07/2018 01:18

According to their main uk web page femfresh is for 'delicate vulval skin' so people with vulvas rather than people with vaginas if using woman is now verboten. Which is good in that I understand using any scented product in your vagina is a very bad idea. I've never bought femfresh and never plan to do so but I don't and never will identify as a 'person with a vagina'. Weird how trans activists seem so focused on genitals.

GorgonLondon · 25/07/2018 01:22

OK Chocco, I've seen the comment you mean now. I agree with you.

ChoccoBiccy66 · 25/07/2018 01:25

They have used the line more than once, which indicates to me that it is an agreed upon phrase for the brand.

They peddle unnecessary products, that’s true. But still I think it’s disappointing that they’ve swallowed the Kool aid.

Wanderabout · 25/07/2018 01:39

I seriously doubt that marketing strategy will be effective for them.

Wanderabout · 25/07/2018 01:40

Which looks like good news for vaginas everywhere;

2. Please don't put products with perfumes in them up your fanjo.

Wanderabout · 25/07/2018 01:41

So win win, really.

FoldyRoll · 25/07/2018 01:44

Meh. Happy to let neo vaginas have this one. Femfresh is misogynist bullshit.

TinyRick · 25/07/2018 02:43

I agree ^

UglyCathKidstonBag · 25/07/2018 02:52

Well I hope it pushes their products off the shelves. My colleagues in general practice are constantly dealing with women with irritation (and worse) after using these types of products.

Here is the issue with this though. Many feminists like us won’t fight this because we will think “well whatever, Femfresh is a bullshit, unnecessary, misogynistic product” and hope it impacts their sales and we see the end of it.
But maybe another brand will see a product aimed at “people with vaginas” Hmm and think “oh this seems acceptable and woke and no one has kicked off, we should do it too” and there we fall into the slide of bye bye to the generally accepted useage of the word “woman”.

UglyCathKidstonBag · 25/07/2018 02:55

And by the way, I’m totally not saying the loss of the word “woman” is due to us not fighting it.
We can fight it until we are blue in the face but is is precisely because we are women that we aren’t listened too.

Bespin · 25/07/2018 07:33

FoldyRoll
sorry neo vaginas can not have this one cos Germaine greet says that we don't have big smelly vaginas so there for have no need for such a product. lol

also totally right that product is total bullshit and. shaming of. woman's bodies

ReluctantCamper · 25/07/2018 08:26

2. Please don't put products with perfumes in them up your fanjo

basically don't put chemicals up your fanjo

leave it alone

it's fine

MoltenLasagne · 25/07/2018 08:32

How about "people who can get vaginal thrush (from using our awful misogynistic products)"

Blagora · 25/07/2018 08:35

Don't reconstructed vaginas often smell? Ones that are made from colon. So maybe it's a good new marketing strategy for them

Wanderabout · 25/07/2018 08:35

I seriously think this wording will negatively affect their sales.

CrazyDogLady87 · 25/07/2018 08:56

I spent a time in my early twenties thinking fem fresh(after a mild bout of thrush) was a better option as it was gentle and wouldn't affect my ph balance,

however, after one day I forgot to purchase some and used my regular shower gel to have a shower, with an anxiety of "great now I'm going to get thrush!"
(I never used soaps of any kind internally, mum always told me (when I started puberty and needed to know how to take care of there in a suitable fashion to my changing body) not to as I quote "the vagina is a clever part of your body it can take care of itself, just wash the outside" I never actually knew what she meant but thought as she was "old" ..(she was 30 haha) she must know best )

and wow low and behold my regular shower gel actually gave me no problems fuck you femfresh what waste of money! had myself paranoid for years I would smell if I didn't use femfresh....

JellySlice · 25/07/2018 09:23

Actually, the ideal wording would be 'for people with neo-vaginas'. After all, vulvas and vaginas don't need these products, whereas artificially created ones lack the natural self-cleansing, pH-balancing attributes of the organs they attempt to imitate.

FeminaSum · 25/07/2018 09:31

Yet more pandering to the trans lobby.

I can't imagine that many transmen will buy a product called Femfresh anyway. Maybe the company should label some of it Mascfresh - for men with vaginas. Hmm

Or they could just market to women and ignore the gender nonsense.

AliceSJ · 25/07/2018 09:38

@Blagora - you beat me to it. People with neovaginas can have this one. Misogynistic product to go with their misogynistic appropriation of the female form. Which.. erm.. smells

beenandgoneandbackagain · 25/07/2018 09:43

Terrible products.

I recall being in Italy, in a very small supermarket, where the vaginal fresheners took up as much space on the shelves as tampons and sanitary towels. I felt very sorry for Italian women - there must be some serious misogyny going on over there for the products to be so popular.

I worry that with the increased pornification of society, these products will become more popular. Teens are told that women aren't supposed to have any of the "self cleaning" fluids that are perfectly normal. There was an awful thing doing the rounds on Instagram where girls were taking photos of their knickers to prove they didn't have entirely normal discharge. Sad
